Baseball America Mock Draft 3.0 ~ Carlos Collazo
1. Nationals ~ Ethan Holliday, SS/3B, Stillwater HS, Okla
2. Angels ~ Aiva Arquette, SS, Oregon State
3. Mariners ~ Seth Hernandez, RHP, Corona HS, Calif
4. Rockies ~ Liam Doyle, LHP, Tennessee
5. Cardinals ~ Jamie Arnold, LHP, FSU
6. Pirates ~ Eli Willits, SS, Ft. Cobb-Broxton HS, Okla
7. Marlins ~ Kyson Witherspoon, RHP, OU
8. Blue Jays ~ Kade Anderson, LHP, LSU
9. Reds ~ Jace LaViolette, CF, Texas A&M
10. White Sox ~ Billy Carlson, SS, Coron HS, Calif
I haven't seen Arnold throw a single pitch.
But....with pitchers...arm health and potential arm health are always part of the discussion. Are we concerned about his smaller stature? Has he had any arm injuries? Is he projected due to his delivery/motion to have injuries?
Anyone with any thoughts?

He has a fairly smooth delivery, doesn't appear to be max effort on every pitch which is what really strains the elbow/shoulder. He has thrown a significant amount of innings, so that could be a concern. But personally, if he is there at 5 you have to take him. He would probably move through the system quickly

Most clubs don’t draft for needs but I think the Angels actually do. I think they will take Arnold seeing an immediate need for pitching while already have a good cost controlled SS in Neto.
I then see the Mariners going after Arquette. The Rockies will come down to Doyle or Hernandez. If they take Doyle then Cards should snag Hernandez as he could be a special talent with his arm. I don’t know much about Doyle but seems somewhat of a reliever risk based upon his delivery. If Hernandez is available take him and if not take Willets

6' 1"
192 lb
that's not as small as a LOT of last year's draftees.

Maybe...but in the modern game, anyone under 200 pounds is on the smaller side.

Found this post about pitching in altitude. Sounds like Liam Doyle could be tailor made for Coors. Kyson Witherspoon also has the type of stuff mentioned. I bet the Rockies take one of these pitchers at 4.

teams targeting certain players, plays into the Cards hands. With the gossip being that the Angels covet an underslot deal with a LHP like Doyle or Anderson, and if this theory about Doyle and Witherspoon holds any weight, then the Cards at #5 could have one of those Top 3 available to them....Hernandez, Arnold, Willits...maybe Arquette (I keep forgetting him, is that bad?)

I don't have Arquette in my top 5. Probably not in my top 10 either. He's overrated imo. He's being pigeonholed in the top 10 due to a lack of quality college hitters. I'd rather take Summerhill if we are dead set on an underslot deal. Arquette has no elite qualities to justify being in the top ten. Summerhill at least has an elite approach and bat to ball skills. I also think Summerhill's defensive value in the OF far exceeds Arquette's in the IF.

Joe Doyle with FutureStarSeries presents his first Mock of the season and he chose to Mock the Draft as the
most chaotic draft possible on draft day. Things sometimes take a weird turn.
It's an interesting read, and Doyle is a long respected Pundit on Prep and College prospects.

Ike Irish (2nd overall pick in this mock) hasn't played much Catcher for Auburn this year. He's going to be drafted as a LH/RF. 11 games at Catcher, 35 games RF/LF. As a result to the move to the OF, his offense has taken off.
He did miss a few games in March with a back injury, and I don't think he's caught more than 2 games since.

Well thought out mock, with new entries to the Top 30, and slot values for each pick.

Gotta get the best pitcher available at #5 or take a chance on LaViolette, if Holiday is not available..

Willits would be a steal at #5. So much to like there with the upside. Getting a fast rising Nolan Gorman at #5 isn't worth the chance.
