I'm sure it's already been stated in this thread, but what is the highest pick we can have for the 2026 draft? Would it have to be outside the top 10?

10th or higher is the best we can get in 2026.

right now, we're fighting the Rockies and Nats for 10-12th. All 3 of us are on Penalty for 2026. We sit 11th, several games behind the 10th Rockies. Nats are a half game back of us.

another amusing effort by Matt Rooney from Bleacher Nation....the Cubbie Journalist did some leg work and investigation this time. He looked up 66% of the draft board an assorted them accordingly. At first glance his draft looks pretty good. Then you get to the Cubbies' pick at #17.... RHP Seth Hernandez. I expect he'll drop Jamie Arnold to the Cubbies pretty soon. He had the Top 8 in the actual 2024 mocked to the Cubbies at #14 last year.
Rooney always gives me a chuckle. Again...tip of the cap, b/c this is his best overall mock in 3 or 4 seasons.

Keith Law's recent road trip scouting Ethan Holliday, Eli Willits and Jo-Jo (Joseph) Parker ~~~along with his brother, Jacob.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/629504 ... -scouting/
Holliday, Willits, Jo-Jo Parker are likely Top 10 picks...it really depends on the teams drafting, and their comfortability with HS SS/3B...all can probably be had for Slot or Underslot at the #5 pick
Note ~ all players in the 1st round must be signed at least 75% of slot. I believe this rule was put in place when the Mets offered Kumar Rocker an awfully low amount for the 10th pick in the 2021 draft. The 10th pick that year was slotted at $4.74million. There were several injury concerns about Rocker on draft day, causing his stock to plummet from the 2nd or 3rd pick in that draft. He didn't sign, and was taken by the Rangers in the Top 5 of the 2022 draft.

I know he hasn't had a great season, but looking at this dude's size and skillset, plus his preseason 1/1 consensus pick, if Jace LaViolette is available at 5, I'd still take him there

Heads up.... Bonus pools were announced for the 2024 MLB Draft and 2025 IFA back in April on the 2nd. I expect the 2025 Draft Bonus Pools and 2026 IFA Bonus Pools around the same date this year. 3-4 weeks away.
We're likely to have a Top 7 or 8 Bonus pool allotment. That's a lot to spend.
....And we're 8th. Pretty good guess

. $14.2 million allotted bonus pool
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories ... each-team/
#5 pick overall is slotted at $8.1million
#55 pick at $1.7million
#72 pick at $1.2million
#89 pick at $879K
that covers Rounds 1-3 (Day 1)

The players falling into the 30-43 range in this mock is why I want a Competitive Balance A pick from the Tigers, Red Sox, Mets, Yanks, or Dodgers.
Get it done Mo...make a big trade with a contender, or a team that thinks they can contend. There's at least 6 or 7 allstars that will go in this range. That's how deep this draft is with B-C tier College Hitters and Pitchers. Many of whom are mislabeled or are A tier players in Sheep's clothing (Judge, Trout, Merrill, ...those ring a bell?)

I agree. And he'll likely be available at #5. It would be nice to have a slugger like him in the organization. Wetherholt was a early projected 1/1 and the Cardinals were fortunate to get him at #7. Getting another early projected 1/1 in LaViolette at #5 would be nice.

yep, Angels, too. They've fallen off the last week or two. Now they're neck and neck with the Cards and Nats

Craviduce, what do you think of LaViolette at this time? Has his stock dropped too much to consider at #5? I think I would take Fernandez at #5 if he is available, but not sure what I would do if he is not.

Uber streaky, with swing and miss concerns. Power is there, no doubt.....some Top 10 teams will consider him, but not all. He won't regain that 1-1, 1-2 status with Holliday he had before the season.
