If you were the regular starter, which game would you want.
If I were a starter I'd want game 2. Why? Because if I were a starter I'd have a complete game mentality. I'd tell the manager, "use the bullpen at will in game 1 and I'll mow 'em down in game 2." That not only exudes confidence but it provides even more self-motivation.
If you need confidence from bravado and scenarios mentioned, i think you have a confidence problem.
It isn't a question of need, but a natural mental technique of athletes to increase their edge.
They used to say about Allen Watson that if he’s given a big league, he loses focus.

If you need to be in a tight game or pitch knowing the bullpen is gassed, then you are not a mentally tough pitcher…
