As mentioned in another post, Torre had a young roster that would've been in the post season by today's rules. 91, 92, 93. Same cannot be said for Marmol.ecleme22 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 06:25 amIronically, this example highlights the importance roster talent.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 23:42 pm Over the last 50 years, Joe Torre holds the longest stretch going 4.5 years without a playoff appearance in StL. You keep posting this, are you seriously trying to equate Oli w/TLR as a manager?Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 05:53 amUnlike Marmol, TLR lost more games in his first four seasons with the Cardinals than he won.Banner29 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 19:14 pmOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 18:44 pmHe wasn’t great but He did get results though olis results aren’t good but hey the players are buddies with him soalw80 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 17:49 pmShildt was a raging a**hole who people hated working for. TLR was never Freddie Friendship either but another one that got results.
I often wonder if Shildt was just that bad, or if it’s been over blown because today’s players/younger coaches are just weak as h**l

A big +1 people conveniently ignore that fact. With all the wild cards Torres teams would have made it which would have spared him from being fired. Even with all of the wildcards oli isn’t making it and the one time he did he completely [shirt] the bed in the post season pulling Quintana then staring like an idiot while an injured helsley melted down because taking him out didn’t work in his paint by numbers style of managingJuanAgosto wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 12:05 pmAs mentioned in another post, Torre had a young roster that would've been in the post season by today's rules. 91, 92, 93. Obviously those rosters weren't as stacked as his Yankee rosters but he got to the world series 6 times in 12 seasons in NY. He might have gone deep if the playoffs had been expanded.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 12:03 pmI agree. Smartest decision Steinbrenner made in all his years as Yankees owner was hiring Torre.

I’m equating judging a manager in the same time frame that another manager is being judged. I can’t just pick and choose the years from one guy and not another, can you?rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Mar 2026 14:34 pmYou keep posting this, are you seriously trying to equate Oli w/TLR as a manager?Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 05:53 amUnlike Marmol, TLR lost more games in his first four seasons with the Cardinals than he won.Banner29 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 19:14 pmOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 18:44 pmHe wasn’t great but He did get results though olis results aren’t good but hey the players are buddies with him soalw80 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 17:49 pmShildt was a raging a**hole who people hated working for. There’s nothing to say any other manager would have done a better or worse job than Marmol did in those 4 years.
Marmol, and people will laugh, may be a HOF manager some day, just like other managers that had some bad years or slow starts.
I’m not a huge Marmol fan. I’m trying to be objective.

It’s an apples to apples comparison on each manager’s initial years.

Oli is a pitiful in game Manager, he brings absolutely nothing to the team by way of creating some offense on an offensively challenged team.
Plus he lacks the simple knowledge to even set his batting order correctly.
Once a minor league manager, always a minor league level manager.

I am, of course, free of bias, free of agenda in all things - and always appreciate it when others attempt to elevate their own efforts at objectivity.
That said, I gently point out that you have far to go in that regard.
There is actually plenty of evidence that other managers would have been far more effective than The Marmot over the past 4 seasons.
And there is zero factual basis by which to opine that it is possible for The Marmot to magically transform into a HOF manager.
I believe you are earnest in your desire to appear objective - and therefore I encourage you to continue that effort, but there is much work yet to be done.

If Jim Bowden said something will happen, I'd race to the nearest sportsbook to wager money on the opposite happening.

Marmol could become a HOF manager. That’s a fact. I didn’t say he was on that path. It would take magic. It would take winning.
