this is probably a 3 or 4 year old interview now, but the chiklits pod had someone on who was in the old Buffalo locker room the last time they were in the playoffs. He said the ownership group acted like they were playing fantasy hockey and started trading all of their leaders for more talent. Then a few years of not making the playoffs the place turned into a cancer and no one wanted to be there. But the entire team knew that they were getting worse every time an alteration happened.MandatoryDenial wrote: ↑29 Jan 2026 13:28 pmThere is a line of thinking I heard first advanced by the Hockeyguy on youtube that much of Buffalo's struggles was because veteran leadership was never in place. I am not sure how much I agree with this but your not the only one who thinks this way. I am happy to ship him out for a legit grade A prospect and a first.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑29 Jan 2026 11:38 am the 2 most dangerous trades are Schenn and Faulk. Does that make the pick Belchetz if you are drafting like 4th-7th?

It’s still needed, many of the players were hoping Lucic would make the team. The days of a tough guy that can’t play are gone though. It’s also why Tucker is on the team.

I hope Carbo isn’t his actual nickname. Sounds like a hoosier trying to order some pasta at Olive GardenInglewood Jack wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 09:52 am One reason I am looking forward to Carbo. Need some fullbacks with skill, and the D used to be a team effort....
Parayko seems like a really nice guy, and Bro has skill, but does not have the body frame for being physical. He looks like he isnt wearing shoulder pads. Do not want him to be overly physical, but one of those guys shoulda stepped into the path. "You shall not pass!!!!!"
Just imagine if Schenn were traded, Tucker and Walker do not have enough skill combined with their physicality to give em minutes. One reason why Ovi is one of my all time favs, true complete "hockey" player on O. We need some "hate that guy, wish he were on my team" guys. So few these days..
Re: Toughness and lack there of
Watch Schenn fight Landeskog and then Parayko fight Landeskog. Schenn is the only Blue willing to fight that can hold his own most of the time. Parayko is very capable scrapper, but a big teddy bear and it's not in his nature to fight most of the time.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 16:15 pm Schenn is the only player that can hold his own in a fight. He also has hurt a few players with checks. No other player on the roster creates anywhere near that fear for the opposing team

That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑29 Jan 2026 13:38 pmthis is probably a 3 or 4 year old interview now, but the chiklits pod had someone on who was in the old Buffalo locker room the last time they were in the playoffs. I was reminded of the Miller/Ott trade (was looking forward to Carrier in the Bluenote), which was quite a few years from their deep playoff runs.
When you look at those post-lockout 05/06/07/08 Sabres teams though... there are some Blues on there (boy could we use a Jay McKee on this team...), but mostly you see mediocre/bad 4th place teams sandwiching two 50 game winning WCF teams. The key differences, according to what's listed on hockey reference, are the captains - Drury/Briere are the listed captains for the two 1st place teams, others are listed for the other teams.
You can see it clearly: Sabres are horrible - acquire Briere and Drury - lockout - Sabres are better - Briere/Drury captain combo wins 50 games two seasons in a row - Briere/Drury gone, Sabres back in 4th place. Looks like Craig Rivet helped them get back to success for a few years, but then it was Pominville with Rivet and Ruff exiting, and that was the end...
Anyways, I agree on trading Schenn. Very dangerous, and not necessary. Faulk, not as much, but I can see the point.

Joel Hextall.
Re: Toughness and lack there of
Blues showed "toughness" last night especially after Tkachuk tied it at 4.
Re: Toughness and lack there of
I don't care if the Blues have a single guy on the roster that can win a fight. What I do care about is the willingness to go into dirty areas and compete. Willingness to initiate board battles and the ability come out on top. Willingness to take the body of the puck carrier instead of trying to poke check the puck. Willingness to get in on the defense and lay a check or at least hound the living hell out them. And these tendencies need to be present on every line and every pairing.

As to the bold, I admire Tucker for stopping that guy's fists with his face!
