For someone wanting to get back into Catching, I would think getting familiar with all the new pitchers would be a high priority.
Disclaimer ~ I loathe the timing of the WBC. I know the environment is electric...ClassicO has attested to this several times. I don't like Catchers and Pitchers missing Spring Training for the WBC. I wish it was held in December, but that would probably be difficult on the pitchers.
What a dumb response.
Playing in the WBC, for many, is a sense of national pride. It also is game action, like spring training, that allows players to prep for the season.
I get those that want him to be at ST with the team, but this is an honor for him and the organization supports players in this (and rightly so).
I hate this, especially when it comes to a young catcher wannabee who needs to be learning his pitchers, how to throw and call a game.
And enough of this WBC being held during STing which screws up ML teams while having them face Asian teams who are already playing regular season games.
Hold the d a m n thing in November, immediately after the World Series.......in Cali or Florida or Domes!
The powers to be see it differently. They see it as ST plus. How can u lose.
ManFraud is an IDIOT
Yet another of his stupid ideas that are ruining the game.
You really make a good point. It’s not just one thing, one change. We are getting close to double digits the amount of major changes under this cat.

The WBC is electric all right, like the electric chair. I'm so NOT looking forward to that. And injury-prone Herrera should not be playing in the WBC. That's just nutso when he has so much to prove at catcher again with his MLB team.

Big deal. These guys have been playing year-round since they were 12 years old.
That little bit isn't going to matter a hill of beans. Such drama
If you knew anything about baseball history and the WBC, you would know how specious that statement actually is.

National pride my (donkey)
It's no honor.
Sorry you feel that way. May the New Year bring you some joy, Scouty!

I do hope the Cards don't have to front 17 players again for the WBC.
Amen Duce. I totally understand that the players enjoy playing in the tournament, especially those who have strong tie into their country. But it's an injury risk and it takes away from spring training for catchers to work with their pitching staff. Anyway happy New Year to all, there's nothing that any of us can do about it! Let's just hope that no one gets injured.
