rockondlouie wrote: 02 Dec 2025 13:19 pm Okay new info...........or is it?

Seems he's been open to waiving the NTC "if he finds the new team to be a good fit" since the end of the season.

Unlike S. Gray & NADO who made it pretty clear given their age they wanted out, I don't see anything new in Katie's reporting other than he "now seems more willing" to waive it.

It's still going to have to be to a team he feels is a "fit", same as he said at seasons end.
I'll keep calling the Brewers as a fit. Even though rumors say they will limit payroll. They could use the bat. A 99 win team should go for it.

Just get over trading within the division.
The Brewers can't afford him RS.

B. Woodruff accepting the QO has put them in a payroll crunch which could see them even dealing Peralta!

NO WAY the Cardinals would eat one dime to send him to the hated Brewers.
Vaughn sucks. Our WC is 2 WAR better. Cardinals eat the $5M buyout in 2028. They can bring Vaughn off the bench or trade him.

The Contreras hermanos go for a championship together. Keep Yelich and Peralta and go for it.

My chips are on a Brewers trade. Might not be the most likely but I should be getting odds on my bet.
Scratch my above RS.

It's come out today that the Brewers are now incline to go into the season w/Peralta.

But there's still no way whatsoever the Cardinals are eating one red cent to help the Brewers, never happening (IMO).
No problem. My chips are on the table.

Looking forward to hearing rumors of a mystery team inserting themselves in a 3-way trade.
:D

(Enter scouty in 3...2...1... w/one of his zingers on the "3-way" )

For some reason, some here feel Burleson is not an even an average defensive first baseman. And I just can't see where they are coming from with that.
Burly career at 1st base is a -1 DRS/-2 OAA.

He's a below average 1st baseman, perhaps he'd improve to league average if there FT should WillyC be dealt.
What are Burleson's deficiencies at first base? How did his numbers last season compare to his career numbers?
IMO, 1B defensive STATS aren't great. The roster on the mound matters.
What does range do with Lynn on the mound? Does 2B range and positioning matter?

That said, AB is slow, he can't change that. Positioning will always mean
a lot. He reminds me of Naylor sometimes.

He had a 0 OAA in 2025 with a -1 DRS for his career.
He seems slightly below average to average.

Just as important to me is opening up 1B. Whether that's AB, IH, or someone
else including 2 other players with bad D in NG or JW if either hit.

Maybe there aren't enough 1 bases.

You do know Shady that if your wish does come true, and Burly man ends up as the regular 1st baseman, then his UTILITY Silver Slugger days will be over?

The Cardinals organization loves Burleson. He will be fixture in the lineup, somewhere, for a long time. And he will continue to improve. A "steady as you go" sort of thing. IMO

You're betting on 25+ HR production, IMO,
There's other roster moves like Herrera at 1B. Now the team may
do some purging of Walker, Gorman, and catchers leaving
Burleson the last guy standing. But from a distance I'm not sure
the team loves Burleson any more than Donovan. There is a single
season different in control and age.
