Wouldn’t get much at this point with his hitting. What if Bichette played 2B since he’s not the best SS and trade Wetherholt for a high end young starting pitcher with control and a good throw in?

Might have to extend Donovan under that circumstance for some insurance/depth as a super utility guy, a role in which he has flourished. If things go well enough with Winn then maybe Donny settles in at 3rd.

That would be more win-now maneuvering so they’d have to be aggressive in fixing the outfield situation, which might be too big of a task in one offseason.

Yes I’d go after Bo but we won’t.
No I wouldn’t trade Winn even if we got Bo (pipe dream)

Scouty really hates Winn.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Bloom traded Winn and Wetherholt was the opening day shortstop

I don’t think it will happen… but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities
I don’t think bloom is that dumb but he might be
Yeah I know you already hate him, you don’t need to keep saying it.
I don’t hate him I’m glad he’s taking over I just don’t think he’s dumb enough to trade a gold glove caliber short stop and install a lesser defensive shortstop who a lot of scouts think will be a second baseman or third baseman long term. I think he would be smart enough to want to build around a strong defensive up the middle which would be Winn at short and JJ at second
I agree. If we were going to sign him we probably keep Winn at SS and move Bichette to 3B but the alternative would be to put Donovan or Wetherholt at 3B and spend the projected $25 to $30 million a year Bichette would be getting on starting pitching if Bloom has that much to spend.

Not for Winn or anyone else. Too much for a rebuild. Seems like we are robbing Peter just to (bleep) Paul off.

Yep Dog. Slow time when this is a discussion.

I mean. I like the outside the box thinking and I realize the pool of candidates is shallow, but standing knee deep doest constitute swimming. It mimics treading water.

Good luck figuring that mess out- ha.

So trade cost controlled JJ, then add about 300m in payroll w BB and BD contracts, who are both nearing 30 years old… hmmm.

Why not keep Winn and JJ, then use that 300mil for multiple starters, a 3b, etc…

+1

BB is not a good defender. Shortstop isn’t position you skimp on defense.
+2 because of the defense and I too think Winn's offense will improve

Heck yea

Deal M. Winn for a young, cost controlled staring pitcher.

But doubt BDWJr would pony the $$$$ ($180+M/7 yrs?) million) needed to sign Dante's boy.

I said that would be a win-now approach. Everyone assumes JJW is going to be our next MVP. Like Walker, Dylan Carlson, Gorman, O’Neil…etc.

This team hasn’t successfully developed a star player in nearly 20 years so I don’t care either way if they move JJW in a big trade.

Bichette is as bad a defensive shortstop as Castellanos is an OF. The worst SS in baseball per DRS and Statcast. He's a -32 OAA career. Ugh. Why do people think he'll be good at 3b defensively?

Bichette, he doesn't have a twin that I'm aware of. Not Bichettes. But yes if we could get two of him i would trade Masyn.

I read that Bo would likely have to move off SS to 3b in the near future. He’d be a terrific offensive replacement for what Nado used to produce. Plus keep Winn. Or Put JJW at SS at some point.

Carpenter was only 13 years ago. Although he came out of nowhere without expectations.

Neither are stars. Donovan is borderline. Matt Carpenter counts though as Carp4 mentioned. 1 1/2 star players out of hundreds of picks. Not down on JJW though, he seems to have a really good chance to legitimate, but who knows.
