oh, we are laughing at you!kyace wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 11:56 amGibson was the better athlete, better pitcher and better defender. If allowed to focus on hitting and with modern training who knows. Gibson was used frequently as a ph in 1970 with 109 at bats and hit .303. He may not have had the power of Ohtani but to laugh it off is naive.
If I thought I was missing out, I’d turn on the TV.dugoutrex wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 10:17 amwell, you are missing out!Rojo Johnson wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 10:10 amCorrection: You may be watching the greatest baseball player of all time.
I won’t watch the Dodgers. Or Yankees. They have been allowed to ruin the game. Eff ‘em.
well, you missed out on baseball history last night while true baseball fans rebelled in the moment!Rojo Johnson wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 13:02 pmIf I thought I was missing out, I’d turn on the TV.dugoutrex wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 10:17 amwell, you are missing out!Rojo Johnson wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 10:10 amCorrection: You may be watching the greatest baseball player of all time.

Laugh all you want but the facts are Gibby hit over .300 one year with over 100 at bats while not playing everyday as a hitter while only focusing on pitching. That there shows he had the hitting ability. If they had the DH back then he may have been given the opportunity that Ohtani has been given and no one can say he could not have come close to Ohtani. Like I said he didn’t have the power of Ohtani but showed that he had the hitting ability given the opportunity and the speed to steal bases. Gibson was a great athlete and had the ability and determination to be great at whatever he put his mind to.dugoutrex wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 12:15 pmoh, we are laughing at you!kyace wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 11:56 amGibson was the better athlete, better pitcher and better defender. I’m not denigrating Ohtani, I love watching him play and respect what he has done but times are different now then prior and there have been players in the past that may have approached what he has done under different circumstances. He’s an outlier but not that much of one to be far and above all others before.
You: Baseball is Baseball, it's the one sport where stats from one era can be compared to stats from another.rockondlouie wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 10:02 amOldRed wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 09:23 amDid you see Ruth play? And yes, he may have been the best in his era, this is something never seen before.rockondlouie wrote: ↑18 Oct 2025 08:55 am
Babe Ruth and it's not even close.
Better pitcher and way, way better hitter.
Ruth
.342 .474 .690 1.164
206 OPS+
Hitter G.O.A.T
Ohtani
.282 .374 .582 .957
160 OPS+
Ruth
163 G/147 GS
2.28 ERA
1.16 WHiP
Ohtani
100 G/100 GS
3.00 ERA
1.08 WHiP
And enough of this "era" c r a p.
Baseball is Baseball, it's the one sport where stats from one era can be compared to stats from another.
And if allowed to do so his entire career, Ruth could've easily continued to pitch & hit.
But because of his greatness as a hitter Managers chose to take him off the mound.
No comparison, Babe Ruth is the G.O.A.T. and it's been "seen before", Ohtani is not even close to Ruth.
Remember 10 days ago when you couldn’t stop telling us how much Ohtani was struggling in the playoffs?
