We most likely are. And MLB needs to market him as such.

Stop.
No way.

Comparing Gibson to Ohtani at the plate? You're funny.
Gibson was the better athlete, better pitcher and better defender. If allowed to focus on hitting and with modern training who knows. Gibson was used frequently as a ph in 1970 with 109 at bats and hit .303. He may not have had the power of Ohtani but to laugh it off is naive.
oh, we are laughing at you!

Twice in 2 different World Series, Bob Gibson did hit a homer while pitching a complete game.

Correction: You may be watching the greatest baseball player of all time.

I won’t watch the Dodgers. Or Yankees. They have been allowed to ruin the game. Eff ‘em.
well, you are missing out!
If I thought I was missing out, I’d turn on the TV.

Laugh all you want but the facts are Gibby hit over .300 one year with over 100 at bats while not playing everyday as a hitter while only focusing on pitching. That there shows he had the hitting ability. If they had the DH back then he may have been given the opportunity that Ohtani has been given and no one can say he could not have come close to Ohtani. Like I said he didn’t have the power of Ohtani but showed that he had the hitting ability given the opportunity and the speed to steal bases. Gibson was a great athlete and had the ability and determination to be great at whatever he put his mind to.
I’m not denigrating Ohtani, I love watching him play and respect what he has done but times are different now then prior and there have been players in the past that may have approached what he has done under different circumstances. He’s an outlier but not that much of one to be far and above all others before.

:?

Babe Ruth and it's not even close.

Better pitcher and way, way better hitter.
Did you see Ruth play? And yes, he may have been the best in his era, this is something never seen before.

Ruth
.342 .474 .690 1.164
206 OPS+
Hitter G.O.A.T

Ohtani
.282 .374 .582 .957
160 OPS+

Ruth
163 G/147 GS
2.28 ERA
1.16 WHiP

Ohtani
100 G/100 GS
3.00 ERA
1.08 WHiP

And enough of this "era" c r a p.

Baseball is Baseball, it's the one sport where stats from one era can be compared to stats from another.

And if allowed to do so his entire career, Ruth could've easily continued to pitch & hit.

But because of his greatness as a hitter Managers chose to take him off the mound.

No comparison, Babe Ruth is the G.O.A.T. and it's been "seen before", Ohtani is not even close to Ruth.
You: Baseball is Baseball, it's the one sport where stats from one era can be compared to stats from another.

Okay, so going by your logic, CY Young was TWICE as talented than Gibson?

And, CY was twice as tough and durable?

CY was throwing 40+ CGs a year. You must think Gibby was a pu55y, right?

Thus far in playoffs, he has struggled hitting just .220
He has just 9 hits in 10 games.

That was a. All-time game last night but the other 9 games have not been much at all. One game in series gave him MVP honors.
Remember 10 days ago when you couldn’t stop telling us how much Ohtani was struggling in the playoffs?

1.236 OPS with 8 HR and 14 RBI in 13 games

He set a record last night by reaching base all 9 times he came to the plate in a postseason game, and the first to do that in any MLB game since 1922. He also tied a 119 year old record by getting 4 extra base hits in a WS game.

The tying HR by Ohtani off Dominguez……the manager talks to the P before the AB presumably telling the guy not to give anything to hit….and the first or second pitch he grooves a meatball right over middle of plate……now how can you be that bad when you’re told not to give him anything to hit???

Regardless of what you think about the contract, deferral of cost ,etc. his signing might be the best deal ever signed from a business and revenue standpoint. Both for the Dodgers and MLB.
