You pitch to him and get him out. End of logic and story.

Are you daft, Red? They pitched to him all day and couldn’t get him out. Hell, they pitched to him all year and couldn’t get him out. Why give him more chances to hurt you? The correct baseball move was to IBB him. The correct d ic k move for the rivalry was to IBB him. Who peed in your Wheaties? Oli actually did something we all should agree on.

This is clearly a Hate Oli Thread.
And if he pitched to Busch and he clobbered one he’d have started a Thread saying Oli was a moron.
And I am one in favor of getting a new Manager.

I hate to break it to some of you, but 7-3 in the 8th inning isn’t a blowout.

There is nothing wrong with the cubs stealing a base…

Dubbie current series to date: Cards 0-2

Dubbies: 19 - R 22 - H 8 - HR 15 - SO 8 - Walks

Cards: 4 - R 12 - H 2 - HR 27 - SO 5 - Walks

Considering the above, saying Marmot made the right decision on Busch is like saying Capt Smith guided the Titanic to a soft landing on Atlantic ocean floor.

IF Marmot made the decision to walk every Dubbie hitting Cardinal pitching the bases would be perpetually loaded. No chin music to get the batters off the plate. The Dubbie hitters know whats coming before the catcher calls the pitch.

I am with Old Red this is predictable and loser baseball. Also show Marmot has NO faith in his pitchers. Walking Busch is like waving a surrender flag. Competitiveness at its worst. But Cards are getting exactly what they wanted - fluff

Is "giving him a chance" their primary job? Why?

Ted Williams' last game of the 1941 season was on September 28, where he played both games against the Philadelphia Athletics. He finished the season with a .406 batting average, going 6-for-8 in the final day's games. This performance solidified his legacy as the last Major League player to hit .400 for a full season. Williams' dedication to hitting .400 and his remarkable last day at the plate are celebrated as milestones in baseball history.

Did the A's give him a chance?
Again. Was that their primary job? If so, why?

WTF is that all about? We’re talking about pitching to Busch.

[fork] em. They wanna steal third to pad their stats in the 8th inning of a 7-3 game, then it's fair game to walk him. If the game still counts, then walking the guy that has killed you all year, and especially today, is a fair move. Especially if they're going to rub it in your face and chase stats right before.

How about knocking Busch on his rear end?

Nope, another extra base hit

Maybe if an opposing pitcher has a no-hitter going, have the hitters in the 9th strikeout to help that pitcher out.

“You play to win the game”…who can argue with that…..?

Well, maybe the Cardinals..

who blew game after game allowing wainwright to spend the summer backing up third base in order to chase an individual stat.

Red, sorry, but your Cardinals "Fan Card" has been revoked. It's gone. You can no longer root for this team. I mean, WTF? It's the CUBS! Anytime the Cardinals can do anything to (bleep) off their scrubby fan base, they do it. F em. Busch had smoked the Cards all season. And you want Oli to give him a chance for the cycle?? I wished he would have pitched to him and had his [ash] is the dirt on the first two pitches; and then walk him. It's mind boggling a so called Cardinals fan would say this.

Gutless decision.
I disagree Red. The proper approach would have been to throw him 3 wide ones and then a fastball up and in.

I would rather see that than an intentional walk. Who knows maybe he swings at one of the outside pitches and hits into a double play.

Lost art it seems for 2026 Cardinals pitchers.

One in the fanny or upper thigh at 80 mph serves the purpose, don't dig in and get to comfortable next time up.

+1000. The walk was the correct baseball decision. Only other that would been close would have been a HBP. But, that may have been a little extreme for some people. The bottom line in sports rivalries is: if you have a chance to irritate or disappoint your rivals, you take it. Never, ever pass it up. And you sure as hell don’t let them beat you when you have ways around it. Acting like he should have hit is a bizarre way to root for the Cards. Thank you, sir, may we have some more? How can we entertain your fan base after you have 13 total bases today?
