Jiricek gained 25lbs this summer?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Sep 2025 12:43 pm I tend to not get too worked up over training camp lines but to me this suggests today and maybe a couple more days will be Joseph’s audition for the 3RW role.
Once they cut down the roster and need fewer total lines, I’d expect both Bjugstad and Sunny to be tried in that role as well. But as of now, they still need both at C to make cohesive lines.
Maybe? Personally, I’m hoping to see him go back to Jrs but maybe I’ll have a different opinion when camp is over. He seems close from a skill/talent standpoint but he’s missed so many games the last 2 seasons and even though he’s gained 25 lbs, he’s still only at 185 lbs. He was still getting rocked in Jrs last year. IMO, it’d be best for him to try to dominate Jrs, play 25+ min a night in all situations than go to the AHL, play 3rd pairing minutes with plenty of healthy scratches likely thrown in as well. He just needs games and to stay healthy. I don’t think the AHL is the best place for that.

The exact quote was that he’s gained 25 lbs since being drafted. The announcers for the prospect tournament made a pretty big deal about it.skilles wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 04:53 amJiricek gained 25lbs this summer?STL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Sep 2025 12:43 pm I tend to not get too worked up over training camp lines but to me this suggests today and maybe a couple more days will be Joseph’s audition for the 3RW role.

The Coaches will be focusing their attention on working with Mailloux to make sure he realizes his full potential and with confidence to have him as a regular now. One at a time...Jiricek will get his chance next year. Also for the other reasons mentioned above re past injuries, playing time, continued physical strengthening.seattleblue wrote: ↑23 Sep 2025 16:13 pm That would be an insane leap from how he was playing just a few months ago in junior, to the NHL. He wasn't even on his team's top pairing.
I'm not against that everyone is impressed with his play btw. That's good news

I dont think we can ascertain that Carbonneau is "clearly not fully NHL ready yet". IF Monty feels like Carbonneau is a better option now vs Texier then Carbonneau should play. Jiricek is either going to Springfield or Brantford my guess now is its the AHL. Jiricek doesnt look like another OHL stint will be on any benefit. But the other big factor is, how are these guys doing in practice every day the coaching staff will know whats the best direction for the teamSTL fan in MN wrote: ↑23 Sep 2025 20:52 pmWhy do we need to give them that? Why should we risk losing vets on waivers to temporarily play teenagers that clearly aren’t fully NHL ready yet?hockey jedi wrote: ↑23 Sep 2025 20:10 pm You can't imagine how the speed of the NHL will translate when those guys go back to juniors. We need to give them some meaningful NHL minutes this year, then send them back. They are both eligible for the WJC this Christmas. Army likes our guys getting exposure in that tournament.
The Blues are pretty clearly trying to win this season. They’re not going to keep and play teenagers unless they’re actually the better alternative and the plan is for them to stay. I see the odds of that happening to be very very low.

But I don't think it's Texier that Carbonneau needs to be better than for the 3W spot. It's Joseph, Sunny, Texier, Stenberg, and Dvorsky.

Here were the lines as of yesterday which indicate game lines as of 9/23b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 07:59 am But I don't think it's Texier that Carbonneau needs to be better than for the 3W spot. It's Joseph, Sunny, Texier, Stenberg, and Dvorsky.

Neighbours-Schenn-Joseph
Texier-Bjugstad-Carbonneau
Toropchenko-Sundqvist-Walker
You can rule out Stenberg and Dvorsky they look to be headed back to the A. Sunny is a 4th liner and im sure he'll make appearances on the 3rd line if needed. Joseph was slotted with Schenn and Neighbours and the Blues are singing Joseph's praises a bit which leaves Texier and Carbonneau. Again a lot can happen we'll see what the Sat game vs Hawks looks like

I was there but got there late. I asked a guy who was there for the start. He said Toro/Bjugstad/Walker got time together. That lineup that you posted makes it look like Joseph may be currently ahead for that spot. Things can change obviously. I'll be there for the 2nd practice today.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 08:27 amHere were the lines as of yesterday which indicate game lines as of 9/23b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 07:59 am But I don't think it's Texier that Carbonneau needs to be better than for the 3W spot. BTW ... Stenberg may be doubtful to start the season here, but Monty likes him. He is responsible. I am not jumping to conclusions because I don't think they have decided for sure yet. That's why I listed all those guys. I agree that Dvorsky is probably starting in the Ahl. He was working on faceoffs yesterday after practice with Schenn and Ott. He won't start the season here as a center.

Re: Group A and Group B lines at camp today
Yep i am judging for the lines that would indicate more of a NHL game practice and where guys are slated yesterday. They way i saw it yesterday was the battle for the last spot was:
Joseph
Texier/Carbonneau
I dont think any of Stenberg/Dvorsky etc will break camp with the Blues. I think as you do Stenberg probably has put himself ahead of Dvorsky and Carbonneau looks to be ahead of both.
Personally i think Texier is just a JAG/fringe NHLer, 12 goals in 78 games is his career NHL high. 40 goals total in 238 NHL games. The puck skill is there, decent shot but it never seems to translate to a lot of production. Im sure others will disagree on Texier.
Right now, without being at camp and watching practice all day gotta say i think Carbonneau could net 12 goals or more in 78 games and he wont turn 19 till later this Fall. Plus you get the size, sandpaper all that and he can more or less platoon with Joseph and Sunny.
But there is still lots of time to go in camp at still 4 more preseason games.

Re: Group A and Group B lines at camp today
You can always see the skill with Texier when he is out there. The problem is the end result. There are games where it amounts to something, and then more often than not, there are games where he's doing cool stuff that isn't driving the play or leading to actual on net chances. Is this because the guys around him lacked talent? I don't know. But I agree, he's probably a fringe guy who could be good when the other 2 guys are top guys. But he isn't going to elevate the play of the people around him.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 10:18 am Yep i am judging for the lines that would indicate more of a NHL game practice and where guys are slated yesterday. I'm pumped to hear the good things about Joseph. I truly think we saw a bad season out of him and it wasn't all that bad. You can see he has speed and size out there, isn't a defensive liability. We just didn't see that killer instinct for the net.

Thanks to everyone reporting what they see at camp. Annually for those of us who follow closely but can't be there to witness camp, we depend on tidbits at this time of year
It is sort of looking like two of three spots to Joseph, Texier, Carbonneau, with Carbo on the outside looking in but getting his chances to claim it earlier than everyone expects. Worst case is he goes back to Boyband-Bye-Bye-Bye with a feeling like he is on the cusp of actually making the NHL. At the end of the day I believe the Snuggy-Mailloux rookie duo integration will mean they don't want two rookie RWs at once integrating. Everyone knows I am riding this Carbo train (except my current metabolism) but I just can't bring myself to believe it's going to happen.

The thing Carbonneau has going for him, like Neighbours when he was very young is Carbonneau is capable of checking in the NHL now meaning he has the size, grit and can skate. will hit. Monty and Army like a gritty line up there is a value in that vs other "kids" who dont have that aspect to their game. Combine this trait with good shot, good passer and that is why he is still hanging around. It will be fascinating to see this play out.seattleblue wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 10:38 am Thanks to everyone reporting what they see at camp. Yep. I took trolling here this weekend from one of the troll accounts because I made a correct distinction between Carbo and Perron in terms of how they use their sizeHarry S Deals wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 10:56 amThe thing Carbonneau has going for him, like Neighbours when he was very young is Carbonneau is capable of checking in the NHL now meaning he has the size, grit and can skate. will hit. 6'2" 205 at 18 with wheels is a lot different from Perron who was very effective at puck possession and had a general pest attitude. Carbonneau can be a missile to be deployed vs other Top 6 lines. That line ofseattleblue wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 11:12 amYep. Neighbours Schenn Carbonneau lol could be a real PITA to deal with and that opens a lot of space for
Buch Thomas Snuggerud
Holloway Suter Kyrou
to work.
