Herrera is not an MLB catcher.
Never will be a starter at that position for any length of time.

I'd rather move WillyC back behind the plate, backed up by Pages? or Crooks? and slot Ivan at 1st base.

Here’s the thing: if IH wants to catch, at least let him try. And if the org didn’t think he had a future in catching, he would’ve moved off catcher years ago…
Agree.
He doesn't need to beat out Yadi for a job, just Pages or Crooks. Pages is not all that great.
My opinion says he should be in the squat a little more. IF that helps his footwork and throws and he can catch
half the games, the team is better. Exceptional bat for C.

Pages has contributed to 33 WP charged to the pitcher, 8 PB. He's #51 in blocks,
#26 in Pop time, #19 in CS above average, along with #18 arm.
That OPS+ of 81 is worse than his 2024.

Herrera in 2024 was #18 in blocks, #23 in POP tied with Pedro, #58 in CS above average, IH had a -4 while PP had -3,
but has that #59 arm.

To date it's glove/blocks vs better arm.

I love Herrera, but this idea is D-U-M-B.

He's a hitter. Let's just put him somewhere where he won't be a total liability on days that he's not DH-ing.

Ivan is horrible behind the plate. Put his 2025 numbers up...CS% 0 for 15 in 13 games
Teams ran without fear.
No arm, legs couldn't handle it.
Extrapolate his PB's to the 100 games Pages caught

Herrera should have been behind the plate 100 games or better this year. That answer would be known. As was done with Walker this year. He def has improved a lot. I put him back there through at least May and see what happens. Let him get comfortable. This is the position that could really add a bat. No more Pages, Pozo.

He's so odd. He called Pages a JAG all of ST. I think it had to do with PP getting a lot of spring training starts. He was adamant Herrera should be the starter.

Oh and we did he put me on ignore? Because he said Tim Raines never put fear in pitchers, so I pushed back at that. He got threatened and put me on ignore. LOL

They do. One of them will be a rookie next year and bats LH, so he can easily platoon. The other is in AA, so they aren’t rushing him up any time soon.

Good prospects need to play a fair amount. You are going to platoon IH at catcher, he is about your best hitter? If you say he will switch to dh those days, then why have a team where the dh sucks and easily gets replaced by the catcher . That is a platoon to rh pitching , which is most of the time... Cards will Again, just make (bleep) roster construction.

Want to build a competitive team from the start?

Get the best fielders/athletics you can from up the middle defense. This will also help your pitchers - giving them more confidence that the fielders can bail them out

That’s not Herrera.

Then add bats at the corners - but not someone who can’t field their position adequately.

Add a veteran starter, hopefully ax near-ace.

Guess Oli is feeling he has manager's spot sowed up .
If Herrera can improve defensively to be primary catcher , that means it frees up a 'bat' to be the DH spot adding improved offense .
Guess Bloom will address this in a month
Start working on improving his throwing. Right after he heals from elbow surgery. Herrera is hurt a lot. Catcher might not be a good position for him.

He went to the driveline throwing lab last off season, seems it didnt help. Why is there anything to be optimistic about? Agree, injury issues, no more catching. He should likely be George Foster playing left field ...
