Shut him down, get ready for next year.
It’s not that big a deal. Blake Griffin had a meniscus surgery when he was at OU and was playing in games 10 days later.

The tear could get worse with strenuous activity.
He should be shut down and have it repaired.
The doctor said he can’t make it worse by playing on it. You think he can. I believe the doctors.

There have been way too many examples over the years of this team knowing a player was hurt, continuing to play him while managing the injury with rest, then eventually realizing they do still need to repair the injury, thus delaying the player's readiness the following season.
Sort of seems like that's their approach to every injury and it often backfires. I don't get it. Just do it right and move on.

I’m sure he has full confidence in his Doctor. After all Dr Vinny Boombatz was Rodney Dangerfield ‘s Doctor

The doctors may be right that he can’t make it worse by playing. It is, however, certain that he can’t make it better by doing so. Risk versus reward here seems pretty clear.

Rodney: “Doc, what’s wrong with me? Every morning, I look in the mirror and I look terrible!”
Doctor Vinny: “Nothing wrong with your eyesight!”

If doctors are saying it can’t get worse by playing on it and he can have the surgery and recovery before the start of 2026 Spring Training, I don’t really see an issue here.
Especially if he thinks he has a shot at a GG, which is something that can help increase his potential future earnings.
I guess the only question is whether or not you believe the Cards doctors when they say it won’t get worse. If they’re wrong that would be a disaster.

As long as the knee doesn't hurt his shoulder by affecting his throws, then he should be okay.
I'd just as soon see him shutdown since it would take practically winning out for the Cardinals to even have a shot at that third WC.
His glove of course remains special but he's been horrible for weeks at the plate (Since 8/1: .198 .265 .281 .546).

Anyone like this that is injured that they plan on bringing back just shut them down. And don't bring up JJ to be part of this clown show. Just get through these last few weeks with this group, fire Oli, and start the rebuild under Bloom.

Mr Winn, good news and bad news.
Bad news is the Cardinals are not going to come close to Wild Card position in 2025.
Good news is IF you go obtain a second and third opinion you can make an intelligent decision on the actual injury and its solution. With the correct diagnosis and procedure you can be ready for opening day in 2026.
Best to you moving forward in your Cardinal career.

Weren't we led to believe TGTE would have offseason wrist surgery and be ready for early season?
How'd that work out

Masyn Winn has a slight meniscus tear that will require surgery . For several months, the MRI has shown the slight tear and has had follow-up MRI's to make sure the situation isn't worsening. Winn will continue playing with rest days as needed (just like last night he was scratched late for the game ).
The medical staff has assured him he cannot make the situation worse by playing on it. There is a short recuperation time after the procedure and he will be good to go for the 2026 season.
For those who can read this, here is the story

PS My own wife had slight tear as well and she was full healed within a month.
Is she a shortstop too?

I don't know. In the last few weeks of a lost season, it seems kind of dumb to keep playing him. He's in a lot of pain and it's not like staring the cover off the ball. Is there also a chance that he hurts himself somewhere else by compensating for the knee?
Also, wouldnt getting the surgery immediately give him more time to rehab it in the offseason and be preoared for next season. Once this season became irreversibly lost he should have shut down and got the surgery.

Winn probably wants to gut it out since the team has not been officially eliminated from the playoffs.
I’ll be surprised if he isn’t shut down early in a week or so.
Winn in the article said exactly that .. he said I want to keep playing while we still have a chance at the playoffs . I was thinking the same thing. Once it is apparent that mathematically they don't have a shot , he may elect to stay out.
Also as someone said, he probably wants to finish to be in line for Gold Glove . He has great numbers and probably covets getting that award .
I know that the Cards medical staff has come into question in the past.
So hopefully....when they say he can’t further injure it they are accurate.
It seems beyond belief to say it doesnt habe risk for getting worse. Beaides fact that if same thing causing him to partially tear it happened again when it is already partially torn thus lending to a full tear,
You also have to factor that its limiting his mobility and he is moving sifferently to compensate for the pain and the weakness in the knee. Compensating can lend to risk of pther injuries since you are at increased for straining other muscles ligaments etc or not being able to land proper footwork as well
