Gorman's four-year tryout is beyond enough. In year four, he’s batting .223, one whole point over his career average of .222, with a grand total of 12 home runs in 83 games, leading to an OPS of .734, just shy of his career standard of .736. His Oops rate also remains on his career pace of one error every 10 games. He’s good to buy a new house in the burbs … of Springfield.

If you don't like Gorman, that is fine. But judge him just like you would judge any other player.
WTF are you talking about “sanctimony”?

He didn’t hustle. I don’t GAS whether it’s Gorman or Winn or any other Cardinal.

Why are you making excuses for failure to hustle?
As mentioned, you didn't see the play.

He smokes a line drive off the top of the wall. Yes, he thought it was gone, so he didn't bust it out of the box. He busted butt maybe 15-20 feet down the line. The ball had already been retrieved by the right fielder and rifled into 2B. Even if he had busted it out of the gate, it would have been a bad idea to try for 2B, as it would have been bang bang.

Do you watch many games? If so, would you say there is a history of Gorman not hustling? I watch most games and don't recall ever having an issue with Gorman's "hustle" or work ethic.
I agree that this has not been an issue with Gorman in the past.

And I hope it’s not an issue going forward.

Oh please…

Molina would barely waddle half way to first base and turn to the dugout on a ground ball…

I don’t remember anyone ripping him…

For the record…Everyone should hustle…. even the fat, washed up ones…
I agree that every player should hustle.

It’s fully understandable he wouldn’t run one out. He’s not all that accustomed to judging potential home runs.

If you watch the games, you know. But, if you're not convinced, it's backed by raw data too:

Can he come around? Maybe. But, I think he has too many flaws and not enough strengths. If he was an average fielder, for example, maybe you can hope he develops into a more consistent bat. But, when he's bad at almost everything, I say you trade him and get some pitching depth (or something more useful).
He's a softball player

We gave Wong an 8 year tryout and Bader a 7 year tryout

Even if he had busted it out of the box, he isn't the fastest runner around, and that rocket off the wall in that bandbox, there are no promises that he isn't gunned down at 2B anyway.
I believe that was lack of hustle.

Regardless, there isn’t a single player on this team that has earned the “captain cool” title of admiring their home runs. Whether that be because of being disappointments, haven’t proven anything yet, or a mixture of both.

I guess everyone is just going to forget about the back issues? It's a long season and a lot of guys get banged up. Pretty crazy how people just go to players being lazy and somehow expect max effort every play no matter what. Fans have a very delusional sense of reality when it comes to players.

There is not a player on the team that would have been to 1B when the ball hit the wall.
His lacking of speed, even IF he he had gone full out, creates a easy out at 2B.
As it turned out, he got to 2B with Saggese walk and saved a out.

I'm sure that there's a STAT cast somewhere that would tell us how long it took for that ball to hit the wall. Maybe then we could be objective about the likelihood of a player getting to 2B on that ball 🤔

Bob Gibson pitched to three batters with a broken leg. How they got those legs I’ll never know.

The ball was hit 99.3 mph it went 354 ft.
2 seconds if no arc. The ball was fielded immediately on a single bounce with the fielder standing on the track. It wasn't a good throw however VS would have been challenged to get a 2B there

There is still more than a month left. I have been encouraged with his hitting and disappointed with his play at 3B. Gorman has been hitting well lately and will likely stay in the lineup. Give it until the end of the season then upper mgmt will decide.
