However, that doesn't mean the Cards should not have traded a rental and tried to get as much back as possible, which they did.
Many said not to trade Helsley, but that was also clearly needed. Even if they didn't get great players back, the team wasn't going to sign him (or Monty) -- and it has opened up the opportunity to see who can be a closer.

Oh but i agree with you that Monty should have been traded and helsley should have been traded. I didn’t mean to respond your post it was meant for someone else who said helsley still throws 100 I was pointing out they are killing his fastball this seasonClassicO wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 19:47 pmObviously since he signed elsewhere.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 19:42 pmI doubt the rangers care about that eitherClassicO wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 19:34 pmAnd that WS for Monty was the last he was worth a darn.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 18:26 pmLast I heard opponents were hitting over .400 on that 100 MPH fastball so whatever it was doing last season it ain’t doing it this seasonClassicO wrote: ↑11 Aug 2025 09:04 am The fact that the Rangers won the WS with he help of Monty means it was a big success for them. I don't think they want him back. He is not handling pressure situations in the Big Apple and is not their closer.

Helsley rocked again last night. Gave up a walk and 2 doubles in the 8th to cough up the lead.
The life of a ML closer. Typical shelf life about 2-3 years for most of them.

Yea, just a couple weeks ago he was our closer. A player most said held highest value on the team. A player many said we could not do without.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑15 Aug 2025 07:40 am Helsley rocked again last night. Gave up a walk and 2 doubles in the 8th to cough up the lead.

Now he’s just another pitcher.
