Re: Gorman seems to suck at 3b
Let's give him some time before we start judging.
Moving from one side of the infield, after you've been there since you were brought up, to the other takes some time to adjust.
He's got the arm strength, just needs time to adjust his throws.
Norman will NEVER, EVER make us forget S. Rolen or NADO, let alone Obie or Pendleton.
But if he hits for power, then the team can live w/his lesser defense.
His power bat, if it comes around, is exactly what's needed at 3rd base.
You can also move Donny to 3rd for defense late in games.

Agreed can’t have it both ways. We need to see what we have in him. Like you said maybe his bat can offset his average to poor defense. Solid arm can help.rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 08:59 am Let's give him some time before we start judging.

Really like the idea of swapping him late in the game when up.

Not many Rolen's or NADO's in their prime to be found, they end up in Cooperstown.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 09:10 amAgreed can’t have it both ways. We need to see what we have in him. If he gets things going offensively (Showing some good slging signs in his last 50 PA's: 3 HR/.238 .319 .452 .772) and hits 30+ HR's while driving in 90 runs, then hopefully he's no worse than league average at 3rd.
Of course it's going to take NADO being dealt this winter for that to happen, till then he'll probably see more time at DH.

Re: Gorman seems to suck at 3b
In all fairness, Gorman has not played all that much at 3B for quite some time. Cards aren't going anywhere this season, give him the rest of the season to prove if his future is at 3B or for that a future as a Cardinal. I see the only alternatives at 3B outside of of Nado, are Saggese or Wetherholt.11WSChamps wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 08:23 am Let Gorman play the rest of the season there and let's see.
He's not going to be Arenado or Oberkfell for that matter but a number of games is needed to get a more valid evaluation.
Frankly his fielding is going to come second to what he can do offensively.
If he doesn't hit it won't matter.

Here's the thing with Gorman. Either play him at third for a stretch while Nado heals, or get rid of him. As a fan I've been patient with him, but if he doesn't immediately turn all the potential into performance than move on from him. It's time. It's almost past time.

I’m about as bearish as you can get when it comes to them moving Nado. With that said I don’t think Chaim will get hung up on him either and continue to groom the roster and improve the team. With or without Nado.rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 09:18 amNot many Rolen's or NADO's in their prime to be found, they end up in Cooperstown.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 09:10 amAgreed can’t have it both ways. Re: Gorman seems to suck at 3b
Gorman has never shown to be anything close to a "glove man" at any position. If he could improve his performance at the plate, his lack of fielding prowess could be tolerated. Eventually he would be best suited at 1B or DH, but in the current Cardinals' need - 3B is where he should play.
Re: Gorman seems to suck at 3b
And then we got Renteria and it was acceptable again. This franchise should have standards and maintain them.Whatashame wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 01:36 am I’m not trying to defend Gorman BUT we have watched a premier defensive 3B the last several years. We tend to think that every player can make the plays that we have seen made at the hot corner. I remember when Ozzie retired. It was hard watching other SS not make plays that we had seen made for years.

Unless BDWJr is willing to eat $20M, then I can't see him moving.
Wouldn't it be ironic if Dewitt had to eat $20M and the only team that wanted him was the Rockies?

I could see a new Manager, who along w/Bloom has NO TIES to NADO, platooning him if his hitting flounders again in 2026.
Re: Gorman seems to suck at 3b
Yesterday, I was thinking of bad contracts the Cardinals could take on from a team who might want Arenado. I thought of the Rockies' struggling LH starter Kyle Freeland, whose ERA has been over 5 for three years now. He is owed $16 MM next year and has a vesting option of $17 MM for 2027. Maybe he could enjoy pitching in St. Louis and improve his performance. BIG problem is that Arenado has that NTC and I don't think he would want to return to Colorado.rockondlouie wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 10:29 amSame here AlexAlex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑03 Aug 2025 09:23 amI’m about as bearish as you can get when it comes to them moving Nado. IMO if Bloom cannot find a reasonable trade offer for Arenado, his playing time in St. Louis must be curtailed unless he suddenly starts hitting like it's 2022 again.

If NADO goes into the Hall of Fame it will be wearing a Rockies hat.
I also think he might, might waive the NTC to go back to Denver where he was a star.
Agree on the playing time.
That's why (IMO) it could happen since Bloom and his new Manager (PLEASE!) have no responsibility for the trade/contract.
Gorman has to be given no less that 50% of the time at 3rd base in 2026 when he's not DHing.
I think Bloom will convince BDWr to eat at least $20M and hopefully a team NADO will waive takes the risk.
