I agree. This team did not really get much worse.
Our old bullpen did a pretty good job protecting the 3-run deficits that our starters left for them. However, we still lost those games.
If our starters don't get better we will be awful with or without the selloff. If they do get better, we can still win some games after the selloff.

Bringing up golf isn't tone deaf? Maybe he should focus a bit more on baseball, which he sucks at right now and is stealing millions.
The revelation that he once again refused to expand the list of teams to which he was willing to move is going to further drain the reservoir of goodwill he once enjoyed.
He is not a smart man.
Nor is he honest in his claim that post-season opportunities are important to him.
There is only one suitable course of action remaining to the Cardinals.
The CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION is to immediately demote him to 3rd string at 3rd base.

They should be upset. This is NO LONGER a destination to play, just like the late 80's and early 90's.
What the front office hasn't realized is that playing .500 baseball to see if you can back into the playoffs and maybe get HOT to win is also killing their draft positions. I believe we are in the 15 to 19 range if the draft happened today, without the voodoo draft selection process helping the team in the first round only. The current strategy is a road to nowhere.

Ideally selling at the deadline would position you to improve your draft position. If we didn't get much worse, that's another sign that this was not a successful deadline for the Cardinals.

Players now their chance of getting to the playoffs are over. Now the young guys will be playing for next season.

He said if teams add player sit invigorates the clubhouse.
If they subtract (aka Cardinals), then it becomes a "who cares if we win or lose and I'm just playing for my stats" rest of the season.
Loved hearing Matt be so honest, this is what I always thought happens when you sell-off like the Cardinals did.
Perhaps having some youngun's on this team they still play hard?
But getting sick of being the new Pirates, Rockies & A's...............this s u c k s.

What selloff? They traded 3 relievers who were gone after this year anyways. That hardly qualifies as a “selloff”.

What selloff? They traded 3 relievers who were gone after this year anyways. That hardly qualifies as a “selloff”.

They were playing like they didn’t care already and it would be nice if they played for their stats because some of their stats suck
