The bullpen was the only playoff worthy group. Now 37.5% of the bullpen gets to go to the playoffs.
Marmol successfully guided 12% of his team to the playoffs!
But don't assume a huge regression from the BP.
Could happen.
But maybe not.
O' Brien has been every bit as good.
So has Svanson.
Leahy has been better than expected.
Graceffo and Granillo should get more looks now.
Romero is still around and has improved as the season has developed - he is no stranger to late innings.
Let's see what happens.
Our old bullpen did a pretty good job protecting the 3-run deficits that our starters left for them. However, we still lost those games.
If our starters don't get better we will be awful with or without the selloff. If they do get better, we can still win some games after the selloff.
What's the mood in the clubhouse going to be after the sell off?

He is not a smart man.
Nor is he honest in his claim that post-season opportunities are important to him.
There is only one suitable course of action remaining to the Cardinals.
The CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION is to immediately demote him to 3rd string at 3rd base.

They should be upset. This is NO LONGER a destination to play, just like the late 80's and early 90's.
What the front office hasn't realized is that playing .500 baseball to see if you can back into the playoffs and maybe get HOT to win is also killing their draft positions. I believe we are in the 15 to 19 range if the draft happened today, without the voodoo draft selection process helping the team in the first round only. The current strategy is a road to nowhere.

Ideally selling at the deadline would position you to improve your draft position. If we didn't get much worse, that's another sign that this was not a successful deadline for the Cardinals.cardstatman wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 23:25 pmI agree. Players now their chance of getting to the playoffs are over. Now the young guys will be playing for next season.

Heard M. Holliday on 101.1
He said if teams add player sit invigorates the clubhouse.
If they subtract (aka Cardinals), then it becomes a "who cares if we win or lose and I'm just playing for my stats" rest of the season.
Loved hearing Matt be so honest, this is what I always thought happens when you sell-off like the Cardinals did.
Perhaps having some youngun's on this team they still play hard?
But getting sick of being the new Pirates, Rockies & A's...............this s u c k s.

Your comments would carry a bit more weight if you could refrain from using your sophomoric nicknames of players, manager, and pobo. For someone who portends to be a management consultant it is beneath you.Melville wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 20:25 pmThe mood won't change one bit.tokyojoe1954 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 19:15 pm Are the remaining players bummed about throwing in the towel?

That will happen when Super Slo Mo and The Marmot leave.
Re: What's the mood in the clubhouse going to be after the sell off?
What selloff? They traded 3 relievers who were gone after this year anyways. That hardly qualifies as a “selloff”.tokyojoe1954 wrote: ↑31 Jul 2025 19:15 pm Are the remaining players bummed about throwing in the towel?

They were playing like they didn’t care already and it would be nice if they played for their stats because some of their stats suckrockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 10:46 am Heard M. Holliday on 101.1

Reducing complexities to the one essential dynamic which defines the root cause of an issue is critical to improvement and future success.Slip Kid wrote: ↑01 Aug 2025 10:59 amYour comments would carry a bit more weight if you could refrain from using your sophomoric nicknames of players, manager, and pobo. It is a skill which I am blessed to possess
You assume a thing to be a nickname when in reality it is the essential and necessary definition - which benefits all.

He is not a smart man.
Nor is he honest in his claim that post-season opportunities are important to him.
There is only one suitable course of action remaining to the Cardinals.
The CORRECT BASEBALL DECISION is to immediately demote him to 3rd string at 3rd base.
Been trying to follow whether he did or did not . Who released that tidbit and when ? Thanks

The Cardinals throw in the towel, true attendance may tank hard now.
