Al three are nice pieces, not foundation type players though. You cannot build a team around them. They need to be the pieces that fill in around the franchise 2-3 franchise players. That’s the cardinals entire problem. They have no foundational pieces. Our only hope right now are JJ and Doyle. Still have some hope for Walker. Still think Gorman can be an everyday player. Maybe I’m just stubborn. Idk

Trip Dewitt has final say in this operation. No baseball moves will be made only the purge of high $ players.

bringing back good prospects would be considered a baseball move.

As long as he is not behind the plate and can be moved to RF (as I have been correctly saying for 3 years), Herrera is worth keeping.
Donovan and Burleson are the best position players on the team not named Contreras or Winn - neither should be traded (instead, both should be extended).
Mootbaar is obviously the best trade piece - and yes, I have been correctly saying that for 3 years as well.
Could be worth considering a trade of Walker under the right circumstances - but perhaps too soon to be eager to pull the trigger.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.
Sincere question:
Please explain??
“As I have been correctly saying for 3 years”
And
“Easy Obvious Correct”
Versus
“Never about ME always about the game”
For the record...I don’t expect a sincere answer!
With the exception of folks who simply lie about something I have posted, I always reply to worthy posts when directly presented with a question.
And I do so in a tone and tenor which is kinder and more gracious than may be deserved.
This post being but one example of that high standard to which I hold myself.
Me being 100% correct for 3+ years that Mootbaar will never be what many hoped and dreamed of is simply a fully accurate analysis of the player and the game.
Me being 100% correct for the past 3 seasons that the best thing for Herrera's career would be to move to away from the catcher spot is simply a fully accurate analysis of the player and the game.
Both of those perfect and accurate assessments are simply the CORRECT BASEBALL ANALYSIS.
I am always and only about the game.
Never about me.
And I am always a bit disappointed when others attempt to make it so.
But, that is your choice.
Not mine.
In a response that was approximately 150-170 words, you used the word (I or me) 9 different times. In a world that is never about you, it sure seems like it’s always about (I or me). I alone saw this. I alone predicted this. I alone knew this.
There are many on here who follow the Cardinals and can see the warts on this team. If you weren’t so self absorbed and actually read what others have written you would be aware of others who have mentioned some of the very same things that (I or me) alone see.

I have been blessed in my life to have known some very special who were worthy of adulation.
But....they did NOT seek adulation through nauseating self promotion.
Their actions and words spoke for themselves!
Perhaps this individual should spend more time in self reflection and FAR LESS time in self promotion??

I really like Donovan, everybody does, but this is about as good a time to get maximum value for him as we'll ever get. He's having his best season and is an All-Star. Your other options are likely overpaying to extend him or riding out the next two years of control when the team might not be competitive.
It sucks that the Cardinals have come to this, but I really think that they have to take a serious look at trading Donovan if there are good offers out there. And if not this trade deadline, then this offseason.

Nothing should be off the table when listening to offers. With that said, if they do trade Donovan or Herrera they have to get a haul for them. I want Mo having no part in those trades. Let it wait until he is out of the picture.
And for players who are ready in 26. Not another Libby where we have to wait 5 years

Holding onto solid players for too long is how you become the Pirates. Donovan isn’t a star. He’s got a .788 OPS/121 OPS+. He’s never driven in or scored more than 73 runs in a season, even this year he’s only on pace for 83 runs and 65 RBI. He’ll likely end up with 250 PA batting 3rd and 250-300 batting leadoff. If you can get a team to overpay for him, you do it.

Not even close. The Pirates have a payroll under $90 million. They have been this way for years. The Cardinals are in the middle of their first real leadership transition in nearly 20 years. If they have to trade off a couple of players strategically to get back into contention quicker, then now it's the time to do it.
We all know that they're not going to go out and spend a bunch of money on free agents next year to get themselves back to being a WS contender. The next best option is to develop as many young, cost controlled players that they can, them supplement them with players making money.
Donovan would have been exactly that kind of guy had the Arenado/Goldschmidt era not proved to be a bust. But he's not getting younger, and it's rumoured that he shot down an extension earlier, so he's not going to come cheap. We've got him through age 30, is he a guy you would want to lock up to a big deal past his age 30 season? And we're not likely to be very good again next year. Maybe 2027, so it's entirely possible that Donovan just goes to waste here if we hold onto him.

It would make sense. Moe is only ruminating over Nado with the occasional check in with Gray and WC.

I like Donovan but I’d trade him in a heartbeat for a nice return. He has never had a season with an OPS over 800 and I don’t think he’s going to get better, likely going the other way actually. Move him if the return is decent

I’d be fine with Burly or Donny getting traded if they’re able to get a lot back and Mo isn’t involved in the negotiations.
