Gray was left in the game 2nd game from the all star break despite the fact something was clearly wrong with him.

If the goal is to save arms Marmol didn't get the email.
What do Fedde and Gray have to do with the conversation?

Not sure what you’re implying with McGreevy.
Is not the thread about the Cardinals saving arms for 2026?

“Young” is in the subject line. And Fedde’s contract is up.

Hmmmm...young pitcher throwing more innings than he ever threw in his life and now during the most intense span of summer heat they are easing back on the workload? And what are they paying this guy? $747,200? How come he's not tough like they were in Cardinal yesteryear. Let's see....

In 1936, St. Louis had a 37-day heat wave of temperatures exceeding 100+ degrees through July and into August. It killed 429 people. The team was in first place at the end of June. But July's team ERA ballooned to 4.71 and in August it was 5.12. Here's that starting staff of "tough guys" who weren't pampered....

-- Dizzy Dean, age 26, -- 315 innings. A true tough guy until he returned prematurely from an injury the following year and saw his greatness dissolve at age 28.
-- Roy Parmalee, age 29 -- 221 innings. He never pitched more than 150 innings after that and was done at age 32.
-- Jim Winfred, age 26 -- 192 innings. He never pitched more than 50 innings after that and was done at age 28.
-- Paul Dean, age 23 -- 92 innings pitched. Obviously he was being coddled ever more than Liberatore. When July rolled around he pitched less than 10 innings for the rest of the year. His career withered and he was done at age 30
-- Bill Walker, age 32 -- 79.2 innings. He pitched all of 13.1 innings in July/August. His career ended that year.

Bet they probably paid up the nose with long-term contracts for these "tough guys."

It appears to me he is more concerned with "saving" the bullpen arms than he is with starting pitchers. I'd like to see a list of rookies who threw 100 pitches this season and pitchers who threw 110 pitches with a 10 run lead. Should I start a new thread or is it okay to discuss it here?
