Whoa, the sun has gone to burnin'
Whoa, and the creek has gone dry
Whoa, black birds are circling
Over the hills, where the dead folk lie

If you choose not to decide; you still have made a choice.

Wynona loved her big brown beaver
And she stroked him all the time
She pricked her finger one day and it occurred to her
She might have a porcupine

God only knows
God makes his plan
The information's unavailable
To the mortal man
We work our jobs
Collect our pay
Believe we're gliding down the highway
When in fact we're slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
Slip slidin' away
You know the nearer your destination
The more you're slip slidin' away

Glory Days? Not a Springsteen fan (at all) but kind of fitting as it’s all we have left.

Woke up this morning the house was cold; checked the heater she ain’t burnin.
Went out and jumped in my old ford; hit the engine but she ain’t turnin.
Losing some tough ones lately; we ain’t learning.
Sad sad story we’re out of whack; one game up and two games back.

I could while away the hours,
Conferrin’ with the flowers,
Consultin’ with the rain.
And my head I’d be scratchin’,
While my thoughts were busy hatching,
If I only had a brain.
I’d unravel every riddle,
For any individual,
In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts I’d be thinkin’,
I could be another Lincoln,
If I only had a brain.
The theme song of the Cardinals (Bird) Brain Trust, as sung by Mozo the Clown.

Good song. Has nothing to do with the Cardinals, though.

"Ode to the Cheaters up North"
You will get this Illiniriles.
On a cold autumn's evening
On a team bound for nowhere
I met up with the grifter
We were both inclined to cheat
So we took turns a-starin'
At the signals of the Buckeyes
As the losing overwhelmed us
He began to speak
He said, "Jim, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's signals
Knowin' what the plays were
By the way they held their signs
So if you don't mind my sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your milk
I'll give you some advice"
So Jimmy handed him his carton
And he slurped down the last gurgle
Then he bummed a cheeseburger
And asked him for a venmo
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna win The Game, Jim
You gotta learn to cheat it right
You've got to know when to cheat 'em
Or you won’t beat 'em
Know when to walk away (2020)
Know when to run
You never count your titles
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the stealin's done
Now every cheater knows
The secret to survivin'
Is knowin' who to throw away
And knowin' who to keep
'Cause every game's a winner
And every game's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to be alone when you weep"
And when he'd finished speakin'
He turned back toward the signals
Crushed out his conscience
Faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
College football it broke even
But in his final words
Jim found disgrace that he could keep
You've got to know when to cheat 'em
Or you won’t beat 'em
Know when to walk away (2020)
Know when to run
You never count your titles
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the stealin's done
