This is all just my opinion. I believe Petro had a beef with Army. It was rumored he wasn't happy when the Blues sent him back to Junior hockey after his initial trial. It was a good move by the Blues. Petro was overmatched at that point. He returned a polished player that was clearly going to be a star defenseman. It was also rumored the Blues put Petro on the trade block in December of the Cup year when the team was last in the league. I'm sure that didn't sit well with Petro.

I also believe Army had a beef with Petro. It was rumored Blues management did not like their captain having no response to Benn sitting on him in that incident in Dallas. Now just pure specualtion on my part now. I think Army didn't like Petro showing up at the beginning of the Cup year completely unprepared to play hockey. This was just after the triplets were born. He was awful the first 25 games of the season, then got better and became the star defenseman Petro again. I also think Army didn't like Petro not be ready to play returning from the pandemic. Petro stated he hadn't done anything hockey related during that time.

Regardless of how Petro and Army felt about each other or why the split happened, Petro was one of the best defenseman in Blues history. He was captain of the Blues first Stanley Cup championship team. His goal at the end of the 1st period in Game 7 vs Boston was huge. Thanks for skating back to the bench Marchand, and best of luck to Petro in the future.

There was DEFINITELY bad blood between the two. Most fans forget that Petro held out in 2013, he didn't sign until the second day of camp when the Blues gave him the same deal that Karlsson had. His next contract he wanted Josi+. That wasn't happening, and history proved that right.

Armstrong was not the GM when he was sent back to Juniors. But I suppose it's possible Pietrangelo could have carried that as a grudge against the Blues for 11+ years along with whatever else bothered him.

He was obviously a great player in his prime. As far the Blues go, he is just a guy that played here that could have been an all time great and chose not to be. You see the guys in Dallas and Florida signing deals below market value to win championships and build a legacy. Petro was much more focused on building a bank account. The no state tax issue, that I believe has some validity, does not cover the money some of these guys left on the table. The bottom line is he didn't want to be here, and I certainly don't want a statue of him or even see his number in the rafters...

Speaking of retired jerseys, nobody has worn #27 since he left. Hopefully one of the new guys will. He isn't even the first Blue I think of when I see 27, it is and will always be Sergio Momeso...

I agree but it was short lived from day one. While he was good for most of his career he was even better prior to getting hurt against the Kings in the 2011-2012 playoffs.
