"Mozo" is John Mozeliak's nickname on CT. "Mozo" rhymes with "Bozo". We enjoy that metaphor, because we feel that Mo acts like a clown POBO, and Bozo is a famous clown name. I hope that helps explain it for you.Cranny wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 09:38 amWho’s “this Mozo”?icon wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:07 pm Can we all agree now that Pages is nothing but maybe serviceable MLB backup? And Donovan should be traded. You trade high on him and include some others to get value in return where it's desperately needed -- In the outfield and in the rotation. Wetherholt probably will be here next year. And he looks as if he'll be a better version of Donovan, whose bat does not play in a corner OF spot or at 3B.
Mozeliak never ever trades high as good GMs do. He should've traded Fedde in the offseason along with Helsley. Now both have greatly decreased in value -- Fedde to zero. Good riddance to this Mozo.

I'm happy to be wrong about which RH thumper bat the Cards trade for. Who do you want them to target? I don't get the impulse to trade Donovan. The guy is an 800 OPS hitter. He is 49th in all of MLB in OPS. Outside of Herrera who does not have enough qualifying ABs, we don't have anyone else close except for Contreras at 762, who has been a bit of a disappointment so far this year. To be a contender you need 4-5 guys that 800 OPS guys. They are hard to get. So why trade the guy unless they are going to get a can't miss guy?
The main thing they need to try to do is trade Arenado. That opens up a spot for Wetherholdt and Donovan on the infield. The team will be so LH heavy next year between Donovan, Scott, Noot, Wetherholdt, Burleson and Gorman, at least 1 of those guys needs to be traded if not 2 of them. But, I would take Donovan and Wetherholdt off the list of potentially to be traded and focus on trading Nootbar and Gorman.
I think the potential window for contention will be 2027. Hopefully by then we have Roby, McGreevy and Mathews in the rotation. If they think they can contend, they can exercise the option on Gray and retain him. Bernal should be ready and Baez as well. They have others coming through and should be able to fill holes with trades or a strategic free agent signing or 2.
What if we could trade for George Springer next offseason, with one year left on his contract? I might be willing to offer some combination of Donnie, Noot and Crooks III to make that happen. That's how much I want a RH thumper at corner OF.

I’d try to see if Brent Rooker or Austin Riley are available. It’s hard, there isn’t a lot out there. But I wouldn’t be overpaying for a 36 year old. I’d prefer in the 28-30 year old range, but like I said in another thread it seems like if they trade for anyone it’s going to likely have to be for someone who hasn’t reached their potential yet and Bloom and company think they can get it out of them. Find a guy like Jonathan Aranda or Kyle Stowers or Brent Rooker before he was Brent Rooker.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 09:49 amI'm happy to be wrong about which RH thumper bat the Cards trade for. But if our lineup is healthy Contreras and Herrera can take up 2 of the 3 middle of the order spots. Put a LH bat between them and it allows a guy like Burly/Gorman to hit lower in the lineup like they should. I do think they need to get a RH bat though that can play vs LHP. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a stud, but someone who is reliable. Plain and simple they need a true middle of the order bat. It shouldn’t matter whether they hit LH or RH.

The real disappointment is we were told Herrera would be great defensively and his hit tool was coming along. If he was great defensively....BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:45 pmI’m with you on Pages. Let him share catching with Pozo 50/50 until September, when Crooks III is called up. His OPS is only better than Hampson's on this roster, and he's not some pitcher whisperer as one know it all on this site suggests. I guess it's okay for him to play out this season if Crooks isn't ready anytime this year. But that should be all, folks!
And Pallante cannot be counted on to be good or for enough swing and miss. Back to the pen or traded.
Re: Changes that should be and should've been
Yes, and consider this - the Brewers picked Misiorowski 24th in the 2nd round of '22 draft, soon after the Cardinals had taken Brycen Mautz at #20............82birds wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 23:01 pmagreeramfandan wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 21:54 pm Regarding changes…
Mo departing is the major change this team needs.
He has our best prospect in AAA now who will be 23 in Sept.
JJ is currently better than several players on our major league roster.
The Brewers have Chourio their best kid who just turned 21 in March contributing in the majors.
That’s why reward GM Matt Arnold was voted executive of the year.
He isn’t afraid to bring a youngster up… see rookie P Misiorowski too.
If Mo ran the Brewers those two would still be in the minors.
Telling Brewer fans they needed more seasoning blah blah
Vice versa if Arnold was running Cards JJ would be playing currently
over Saggese, Gorman, etc.
Hoping Bloom will be more like Arnold
did you see Misiorowski struck out 12 Dodgers Tuesday night?

Re: Changes that should be and should've been
This team needs at least one outfielder (with power), a 3b, a catcher, and at least two good starting pitchers. And going into next year, they will need a closer, and left & right handed reliever each.
There is a lot of work to do.

Re: Changes that should be and should've been
It's a bit of a chore to go through. There are some teams, more than normal amount IMO, that are nowhere where they expected to be and are near or over their traditional payroll. That's both of your Atlanta and A's, Riley and Rooker. Then there is the group that always move their players when they get close to losing control of them.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 09:57 amI’d try to see if Brent Rooker or Austin Riley are available. Who do you want them to target? Maybe its not this upcoming off season, but the following.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 09:44 amBlue Jays would jump all over that. Springer is going to be 36 years old in September. He had a .674 OPS just last year and looked like he was quite possibly done given his age and decline. I wouldn’t mind him at the right price, but not for some combination of Donnie or Nootbaar. I would definitely be willing to deal Donnie and Noot though.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 08:57 amNo argument here. Didn't Mo say last off season that trading Arenado was priority #1, #2 and #3? For all the things that didn't happen last off season, not trading Nado was the most disappointing. When that didn't occur, Mo seemed frozen to make any other deals.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025 23:31 pmCrooks has a 751 OPS in Memphis. Not sure what that translates into at the MLB level. Re: Changes that should be and should've been
Again, this past off season Mo was only looking at trading Arenado. He was not looking to trade any relievers or starters. I’ve seen it reported from various sites that Mo when asked about Feddee and Helsley this past offseason told teams he was not looking to move them. It never got to a point where names were involved from what I have read. There were no negotiations just a flat not interested from Mo.

Re: Changes that should be and should've been
He has stated that he wants a clean slate for Bloom next year which is why he approached Gray and Contraras about waiving their NTC. If they had he would have tried to trade them. Trading those two and Arenado would have left zero dollars committed next year. You could not have got a cleaner slate than that.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 12:53 pmThere are many people who once they decide to leave, quit even before leaving.kyace wrote: ↑10 Jul 2025 12:50 pm Again, this past off season Mo was only looking at trading Arenado.
