Watch out for Quinton Burns, making his AHL debut this year, have a feeling hes going to be knocking on the 3rd LD spot before you know it
Burns is exactly the kind of player you mentally slot on the 3d pair and then you find out later he shows you he's a top 4 defenseman, actually.
Burns has more than just toughness to his game, it's just that his baseline is being the sheriff.
And I like the way both of you think here as well. It would be nice if it works out quickly.
Not sure about quickly. Burns is more of a slow burn sort of player IMO (pun absolutely intended). He’s mean and has good outlets. I see him fitting in as a regular on the 2nd or 3rd pairing for the T-birds this season.
He is exactly the kind of player who helps you with a rugged playoff series. And yes he will probably take two full years in Springfield, people will forget about him, he'll be yesterdays news, but this feels like a bottom pairing D who's an NHL rock and I really liked what I saw from him this year. He's not afraid of top talent opposition, he wants to get in there with them.
How would you compare Burns and Tucker from a skating perspective? I understand Burns is probably a couple of years away.
Burns is probably farther along in his skating than Tucker was, but has room to grow. Tucker really struggled at first and a bunch of people myself included wrote him off because it's easy to do that with a 7th round pick who is getting turnstiled in the NHL, but he really figured something out because he still isn't perfect or particularly fast even, but he is less prone to getting outright beat. I don't really see that too often with Burns in the level he's at so I can't wait to see how he looks in Springfield. I have seen Burns get beat, because it happens with every defenseman at some point, but Quinton Burns is not the OHL defender the top players like to rush against, let me put it that way. He can make high end plays on big players, he is a good thinker of the game. He understands the offensive zone. He has a decent shot but he's more cagey than a primary threat in the o zone, as contrasted with say Fischer who can hammer it. There is a lot of similarity in the improved Tucker and where I see Burns going with his game.
btw I was laughing so hard at the first reply to your screen name the other day, and I never even watched that show. the way you described it was A Premise so I googled it. There is a great moment in Arrested Development when George Sr mistakes Tobias for a reservation casino employee and requests tickets to the Ray Romano show "but not so close that Ray talks to us."
