Oh yeah, that makes sense.
The obsession with giving every player a nickname going back to Tarasenko and "Tank" seems kinda fruity to me. How grown men can have a boy crush on professional athletes is beyond me
Have you actually played the sport. This is what goes on when you have a team of guys you play hockey with. So not sure what your fruity bull[shirt] is cause hockey players are the toughest they come
It's not the hockey players I'm talking about it's the fans who insist on giving every player they take a shine to a nickname. Nicknames are usually reserved for the best players, such as The Babe, Hammering Hank, The Say Hey Kid, Stan the Man etc. Hockey has The Golden Jet, The Rocket, The Great One etc., all appropriate and applicable. Many of these others not so much.

I am a fan and a hockey player. I may not be a blues player but i played from 6 to now and i am 43. Its the culture. I quess the question is why does it bother you what other do. Cause in my mind you are the one out of place on this issue. Just because i have been apart of the culture. Played travel tourney, highschool and tons of recs

Iowa, Seriously?

Snuggles is still too feminine and dainty for my taste. Wasn't there a stuffed bear by that name?

I'll go with whatever Jimmy wants, but I sure hope its a good one.

Is it a part of the culture among players, fans or both? I was in the military and was given a nickname at my permanent duty station. Out of the division of a hundred guys there was maybe a half dozen more that had nicknamed as well but that was the extent of it. I had a nickname after moving to another country as a teenager too. I have a friend who goes by a nickname at my church but he's the only one out of a couple hundred I'm aware of. I played sports year round in youth leagues and through HS. Nicknames were reserved for special characters. From what I've seen over the years on this board it seems more like the rule. I'm 64 and it's unusual to me.
