The lineup is simply better against RHP with Burleson in it.craviduce wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:46 amthat's not realistic. Pitchers love and prefer throwing to Pages. Herrera at Catcher full time is the only way you get Herrera, Burley and Contreras in the same lineup, and that has to be against RHP. Herrera is your DH most of the time and he's not coming out of the lineup often. Burleson is part time vs. RHP and never against LHP.

Re: Burleson/Contreras
I'm all for Burleson getting occasional spot starts to give contreras some rest, but that's about it. He's perfectly fine in that role, and his production and defensive liability make that role appropriate for himShady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:57 amThe lineup is simply better against RHP with Burleson in it.craviduce wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:46 amthat's not realistic. Re: Burleson/Contreras
Which Burleson will show up? I’m guessing the one with a career .715 OPS/97 OPS+. He’s ok, not great.Shady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:05 amI'm considering now and the next seven crucial weeks.ecleme22 wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:03 amNot the first 7 weeks of the seasonShady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:57 amThe lineup is simply better against RHP with Burleson in it.craviduce wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:46 amthat's not realistic. Re: Burleson/Contreras
You are entitled to your opinion. However, Marmol probably sees it differently. Burleson will likely be in the lineup, regularly, against RHP. And they see a lot of RHP.Adam2 wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:04 amI'm all for Burleson getting occasional spot starts to give contreras some rest, but that's about it. I'll be interested to see if Burleson completely forgets how to hit a baseball as the season goes on, just like last year. hopefully notShady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:07 amYou are entitled to your opinion. Look in the mirror pal, you're the King of personal nonsense.

So the last weeks of May is the REAL tryout for a FT starter position in June and July?Shady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:05 amI'm considering now and the next seven crucial weeks.ecleme22 wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:03 amNot the first 7 weeks of the seasonShady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:57 amThe lineup is simply better against RHP with Burleson in it.craviduce wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:46 amthat's not realistic. Makes little sense.

Re: Burleson/Contreras
Old Red I have read your post with supporting info. I can see why you have taken your position. Like the rest of us we have Card players we like and promote.
But as pretend POBOy, GM, Manager, et al I would ask you -
1. Bottom of ninth - 2 out - tying or winning run on 3rd base who would you rather have at bat? The opposing pitcher can be R or L handed. Neither is ideal but I go with WC due to experience.
2. Game 7 of WS. Same scenario: Bottom of ninth - 2 out - tying or winning run on 3rd base who would you rather have at bat? Same with pitcher - you pick. I again pick WC in big game situations.
3. Would you pick Burly or WC to have the ability or skill to carry a team for 4-5 games? NA has that ability whether on defense, offense, etc to carry or fire up a team such as his throw out at home and game winning home run during Brewers home series. Big time plays.
My 1-3 most likely does not have supporting stats. But it allows the fan to make the decision based upon the "eye" test.
Regardless, a good topic. Got posters posting.

Re: Burleson/Contreras
Each week Burleson could get a start at 1st, LF, RF and DH. That’s plenty of at bats over the course of a year.
Re: Burleson/Contreras
So you prefer to go with the player/players that are not hitting as well, currently? That has resulted in Marmol not getting needed production, sometimes, in the past. Ex. Arenado, Goldschmidt last season and Arenado earlier this season. Don't want to see Contreras at cleanup while struggling. Put him down in the order, like Arenado, and let them hit their way back up.ecleme22 wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:40 amSo the last weeks of May is the REAL tryout for a FT starter position in June and July?Shady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:05 amI'm considering now and the next seven crucial weeks.ecleme22 wrote: ↑29 May 2025 11:03 amNot the first 7 weeks of the seasonShady wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:57 amThe lineup is simply better against RHP with Burleson in it.craviduce wrote: ↑29 May 2025 10:46 amthat's not realistic.
