Fine is not good enough when you have a future hall of famer on your team.
He needs to be great. He hasn't been for a long time.
Lots of stupidity in this thread, but this takes the cake. 5.2 WAR would be top 20 in the league. Bryce Harper had 5.2 WAR last year. Was he just fine too? 5.2 is great, bordering on elite. There are more ways to impact the game outside of hitting homers.

Nado has already won multiple games this year with hitting or defense. The first two games of the Milwaukee series were won thanks to Nado. Even the best players fail 65+ percent of the time at the plate. Need to chill out and appreciate watching what may go down as the best 3B defense the league has ever seen. Trading Nado would be a huge mistake unless the team takes a nosedive.
A platoon catcher has 2 fewer rbi Than our cleanup hitter……on a top of league offense
With a .398 slug……you excuse makers are a funny group

Absolutely!!! He hasn't hurt the team at all. It's great to have a future HOF on this relatively young roster. He most likely provides more leadership than most on here give him credit for. I couldn't imagine having to watch Gorman play 3RD for the rest of the season!

Re: Nado - well who would be a better option and make us better than that for 25 and 26? Once we figure that out then we can talk about making it happen. I don't vote for getting worse with Gorman.
Bingo

If BDWJr was smart he'd let Mo/Bloom ADD instead of looking to save a few bucks (which he already has when he shaved $50+M off the 2024 payroll).

This team is fun to watch, is playing hard and surprising MLB.

If Dewitt wants to get the 35-40,000 crowds again, then he has to excite the fan base by saying they'll be buyers at the deadline and not sellers unless they get an offer from the Godfather (one they can't refuse).

Their #2 record in MLB vs teams over .500, re: most likely playoff teams, shows they could make some noise in the playoffs and sell a lot of 2026 tickets!

And I love his defense, but in terms of being a veteran leader he is not and he is not a cleanup hitter anymore. He's at best a 6th hitter and probably a 7th hitter in a good lineup. Unfortunately I don't think our manager is strong enough to move him down in the lineup until it is so obvious that he's cost us game after game.
How is his offense not a positive? He's the 10th best hitter in baseball among 3Bmen (and defensively, #1 in OAA, 5th in DRS) That's a (bleep) good player.

Also, I'm not exactly trusting Contreras, who was awful for most of April, or Herrera, 46 PAs, to be all that much different in the holy 4 spot in the lineup.

Because he’s hitting 4th for us. And he has a .396 SLG%.

That is 10th best among qualified 3B, which there are only 19 of those. So he’s below average among 3B. Just like he’s a below average 4th hitter.

I love his defense and that’s why he gets playing time. His hitting is more like a 7th hitter now, maybe 6th at best. But the Cardinals continue to trot him out there in the 4th spot despite the fact that he hasn’t had better than the 7th best OPS on the team since 2022. Literately working on year 3 of him not being close to a 4th spot kind of hitter.

Unless I misunderstood, he is an above average hitter especially for 3B. Also, last I checked there are 30 teams. He is around around 10th in a number of offensive categories for 3B and the Cards are 7th overall for 3B in the ML.

Lineup spot isn’t that big of a deal to me.

He's basically a league average hitter right now with a 98 wRC+, which is tied for 13th among 19 qualifying MLB 3B.

That's not great.

He has a 99 OPS+ which puts him below league average as a hitter. His SLG% and average are league average for 3B. His OBP is slightly above which helped his OPS be slightly above league average for ALL 3B. But among regular 3B who qualify for a batting title he is in the bottom 50% of those.

He is now hitting worse than last year.

CT like a week ago when he had a .780ish OPS:

He was at like 170 a month ago probably. He’s been going down and down and down since the beginning. Over his last 30 games he’s hitting .224 with a .651 OPS. He’ll have an occasional game that reminds you of the Arenado of old but the fact is he is not and he shouldn’t be hitting 4th for this team.

So he was barely above average two days ago. That really doesn't change anything. Do you want a barely average hitter, bottom 3rd among qualifying MLB 3B, hitting cleanup? What for? I love Arenado, but he's getting older. He's been steadily declining. It happens. This isn't an insult to him. It's appropriate for this point in his career. Best to get ahead of it and treat it accordingly.

BUT

He needs to be dropped to the #6 hole:

Noot
Winn
Donny
WillyC
Hererra
NADO

That wasn’t what I was arguing. I don’t care as much as y’all about batting order. Everyone hated Contreras hitting up top in April and Herrera was hurt until a little over a week ago.

I was talking about your comment that his only positive trait is his defense. Which isn’t true l, unless you want to use recent small sample sizes which can change on a dime.
