Short answer- no. His contract was bad the day it was signed. He was out of shape when he came up at 20. That hasn’t gotten better. He has always been a bad fielder. That isn’t getting better. His hi tool is not getting better. He is owed massive money for 8 more years. Even if there are deferrals, they have to be paid sometime. He was only signed to avoid a mutiny by the fans who were angry about Betts and Boegarts leaving. Bad, bad contract. Stay away.

PS. The Red Sox are not at all looking for an outfielder. They are trying to find a place for Roman Anthony to play. (Wilyer Abreu anyone?)

Simply curious at to what the fan base would be willing to do to add a quality bat with star power to the roster.
Is there an appetite.to add a marquee player?
Or instead, as you say, stay the course?
Risks and reward factors exist either way
IMO - If the front office made the decision to acquire a "marque" player to put butts in the seats: This would reveal poor leadership. They made a decision to "see what we got," and I believe the results have been better than expected. The fan base will always have an apetite for acquiring star power, much in the same way my children always had an appetite for candy. Hopefully the adults in the room have the cajones to say no, But Yes - I believe the Card fan(atic)s would always love to see a star added to the roster. Pleeeze stay the course. Deal Arenado for youth, keep Gray, and be patient on Helsley. The possibility of acquiring a big package of youth for our closer could pay big dividends if we are patient and play our "Cards" right.

Devers is actually quite affordable since he las a large sum of money deferred in each year of his contract.
Paired with Arenado, he would give STL a formidable middle order presence which they currently lack.
And from a business perspective, it would help bring fans back to the ballpark.
The potential fit is there.
Something along the lines of N/A, Mootbaar, Pozo, and Mikolas for Devers and Jhostynxon Garica.
Bottom line:
If you could add Devers' bat to the STL lineup for the next 8 years at little meaningful roster loss, would you?
Why trade Noot? He's on pace to score over 100 runs this season. Who was the last Cardinal to do this?

So, you want the Red Sox to take a guy who stinks in mikolas, another who is league average in Arenado, a guy you think is a 4th OFer in Nootbaar and a complete unknown in pozo? Why in the world would the Red Sox make that deal?
I didn't say they would.
I posed but one of several possible scenarios.
The Sox do need a RH bat, they do need a corner infielder, they do need a starting pitcher for depth in the short term, they are very thin at catcher, and they would want a player in return with several years of control.
Many ways to get that done.
The point of the question was not the specific components that would get it done, but rather if fans here would consider seizing the opportunity to add a marquee player as opposed to sticking completley with the current plan.

It’s not a possible scenario. Quantity does not make up for offering bad players. Since it’s not a legit scenario, on paper, I’d do the deal yesterday from the cardinals standpoint, but I’d need to understand better whether or not Devers is being a diva

At this point Devers is a negative asset. Why would Noot have to be in the trade?

He was an example, nothing more.
No, Devers is not a negative asset.
If Boston were to put him on the market, there would be many offers (Devers does not have a NTC).
Boston would not give up 8 years of his bat for 2 years of a diminished N/A and 3/4 of a season from Mikolas.
They would want another asset with several years of control remaining.

Obvious answer:
He hates Nootbaar!
Which is the reason for the childish nickname Mootbaar.
The guy is an arrogant tool.
If Noot ran out into the road and saved a child from getting hit by a bus....ME-ville would want him arrested for jaywalking!
Easy
Obvious
Correct

I didn’t say it would be Mikolas and Arenado. I just said Noot wouldn’t have to be part of a trade for Devers. No [shirt] they wouldn’t trade him for those two.
