Remember, Parayko was one of the clowns standing around swatting air while the Jets circled around and scored. Trading him admits the Blues have a problem, so they'll NEVER do it.

Parayko could've arguably be in the conversation for the Norris before his injury. Not that he would've won it, but he was getting noticed.

You don't trade dominate RHD like Parayko.
Dominant? You’re kidding right?
I’ve been as big a Parayko critic as their is but there is just no way we can trade that guy and be a better team.
He doesn’t box out, turnover machine in his own end even with the great season he was having. Pronger called him a 3. I’ll take his word for it. Have to give to get. Only thing I don’t like is the NMC for Zibanejad.
They won a cup with him as a 2. Great internationally as well. Prongers no God when it comes to opinions

Not sure how else you fix the 2C problem. Surely you’re not going with Schenn again next year
For those that don't mind a repeat of this season or even missing the playoffs we do go with Schenn again. For those that think we ought to do everything possible to win every game possible it's probably a no.

Despite the injuries to Holloway and Parayko the injury bug didn't bite too hard this season. If it comes back hard next season we're looking at drafting at #10 or higher without a move for a legit 3c and #2-3RHD.

And Pronger is blowing it out of his backside... Colton was 35th in scoring for defenders despite averaging only 31 seconds of PP time a game, 6th in the NHL in 5v5 ice-time, 18th in scoring for defenders 5v5 while still missing 18 games due to injury. He was selected by Canada (who won the tourney) for the 4 Nations. Do you know how many Canadian defenseman are in the NHL?

Pronger also says Cale Makar (in another story from the Athletic) was the only #1 defender at the 4 Nations... The same Makar that got OWNED by Dallas all series (really, he had only one good game).

By contrast, Parayko (who the FO stated wasn't 100% going into the playoffs) finished the final 5 games of the series with 6pts at +8. Heck, Fowler and Parayko were two of the three top scoring defenders in the entire 1st round.

And now you want to trade him???

No way, no how.

The OP sort of gave the Cliffs Notes version of the whole interview. Pronger also said there were only 10 legit no. 1 Dmen in the league and also said Parayko was probably the best defensive dman in the league.

I thought that whole "Parayko is a #3" was just kind of a dumb semantic argument he was making. Like...what does that even really mean?

Love the guy as a defenseman, but I think he fancies his own opinion a little too much and seems to be too focused on building up his personal brand. He's super active on Twitter, I actually really enjoy his hockey tweets but clearly he's trying to convey this persona as entrepreneur/business coach/motivational speaker etc. It kind of bums me out tbh, he's one of my favorite players ever and has nothing to prove to anyone, but now he's coming across as kind of a try-hard.

Anyways, I'm probably just being a cynical a-hole. However...Parayko is NOT a #3 defenseman.

Either way his value is the highest and you have to give to get. Z is a former 90 pt scorer and a huge need behind Thomas. You’ll survive without St. Colton good lord!

No, just absolutely NO! Faulk and some change now were talking! Plus we would need to get someone to play defense with that trade.

If you trade Parayko, any thought of the emerging window opening is now put on hold. The Blues would be searching for a RHD like 90% of the teams. Oh, and you think Fowler will want to extend after his partner gets traded?

If anything, the Blues should be searching for RHD to round out their core. As MN Fan mentioned, Fabbro would be a nice option.

Zibanejad is on the downward slope of his career with last three years regressing. He is 32 and signed until he is 36 on a contract that is $2M more than Parayko. You could save $5M a year and sign someone like Duschene. Parayko is more valuable to the Blues than a 2C.

Haha, the post above was about Pronger being a blowhard. Apparently you missed my earlier comments about 55 for Z -- here, I've copy/pasted them here for your reading pleasure:

This is a colossally, COLOSSALLY terrible idea. No offense to the OP. Mika is entering the steep phase of his decline...his production is down 50% in the past two seasons and he was -22 this year. 55 still has at least four more good years IMO, and he seems like he could go until he's in his late 30s.

Go to a Rangers game and sit in the cheap seats, you'll get a good sense of how how they feel about Mika haha. We're talking Brewer-levels of whipping boy hate, with a healthy dose of New York ruthlessness. Pretty entertaining actually.

I remember a time on this board that we wanted to trade our bad players for other teams good players. Times have changed.
