Oh absolutely. Complete brain fart. But in some ways, that’s a flaw of set plays. What do you do if it doesn’t work? Then what? I bet 95% of the time Buch would recognize he needs to change course and not try to continue with the set play but that fatigue in Double-OT is real.
If he makes that play we never see double OT

He was looking to ice the game and, peripherally, his ninth goddammed point of the series.
He had 8 points in 7 games. The other playoffs he had as a Blue he had 11 points in 12 goddammed games.
I will take that kind of dumb over some of the pinheads that skated for us in this series,

if my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle.

If Kyrou gave a tenth of a [shirt] about winning a playoff series… it might not have gone to seven games.

I’ve been complaining about the Buchnevich play since it happened.
And much last night and today I was watching replays of the goals in the last minute and overtime and Buchnevich had so much room to lug the puck forward over the red line and kill several seconds, and make the Jets regroup if a closer shot wasn’t possible.
Very disappointing and I think cost us the game and the series

Can't remember if it was postgame or an interview today but whoever it was reported that Steve Ott notified Monty about Buch on the bench in OT. Apparently, Buchnevich was borderline despondent sitting motionless with his head hanging low and had to be told "It's going to be okay."

I have no sympathy for him. In fact, it p*sses me off more because he clearly knew what he was doing at the time he did it. I think he was trying to be the hero. Buch has had personality, effort, and intelligence issues before so "brain fart" is garbage IMO.

In case anyone's forgot, this is now the 2nd time in a row the Blues have been eliminated from the playoffs because a Blues player who had all the time and space in the world sent the puck back to the opposition with 15 seconds or less to go. I can't find the video of who did it in Game 6 against Colorado in 22 but I still remember jumping up and screaming in the bar "What the F are you doing!" when the Blues player did it.

Every video I've viewed of that goal just shows Avs with the puck behind their net with 15 seconds to go, not the guy who blindly dumped it in.

It was a dumb play. There is no defending it.
It was one play. There was zero way to know that his icing was going to be the panic icing that led to a series of subsequent events that tied the score.

If anyone of our forwards was exhausted, it would have been him. He and Thomas played 20 minutes more of game time than any other forward in that series. One entire, non-stop period of more slam bang playoff hockey than any other forward. No one had more goals than he scored and only Fowler and Thomas had more assists.

Hindsight is 20/20. Blaming the series loss on one clearing chance at an empty net that missed is myopic, in my opinion.

The tying goal was not scored off the ensuing faceoff. The puck was actually cleared again before the tying goal was scored..
The New York Times has a pretty accurate and dispassionate account of the events that led to the tying goal.

With Winnipeg trimming the deficit to 3-2, Hellebuyck went back in the net, but left again with 1:26 remaining.

The Jets came close to tying the score with 1:06 left, but Blues goalie Jordan Binnington kept out a puck that was centimeters from crossing the goal line. It was ruled no goal on the ice and held up after a review.

There was a faceoff in the Blues’ defensive zone, and Thomas iced the puck again with 53 seconds left. There was another faceoff and Pavel Buchnevich shot at the empty net, resulting in another icing with 46 seconds left.

The Blues got a clear, but the Jets brought the puck back into the offensive zone with 23 seconds left, and after clearing attempts by Faulk and Parayko, the puck wound up in the corner with 12 seconds to play.

It came out to the point to Nikolaj Ehlers, who whiffed on a shot, but Lowry sent it back out to him. With about three seconds left, instead of taking another desperation shot, Ehlers made a cross-ice pass to Kyle Connor, who fed the puck in front to Perfetti for a deflection past Binnington.

Game tied, 3-3.
