Backs are very tricky. Hurt mine at age 17, still feel the pain 59 years later. Progressively worse.

Players are taught to divide the plate into quadrants. I think Charlie Lau was the guru on this. They’re told to look for a ball in a favorable quadrant and swing only at that. With two strikes expand and protect the entire plate. That’s why they let so many early strikes go by and get themselves in the hole. Gorman is obsessed with pulling the ball. The pitchers know he’s going for a pull. He gets behind in the count and the early pitch right down the middle ends up being the best pitch to hit but he let it go. The tragedy of it is that Gorman has incredible power to all fields. No need to pull. He is a proven power hitter. He is not a proven hitter. He needs to hit the ball up the middle. If he’s early he will pull it and if he’s late it will go to LF. He needs to make contact. If he doubles his contact rate his average will go up 50+ points and he’ll hit 40 homers without trying to pull the ball.
