Why put a space after best, then the comma?
Answering that question would require the OP to put actual thought into what they vomit onto this website daily.

It's not complicated. For years the Cardinals remained in contention by trading prospects for overpaid veterans. That masked the fact player development in the organization was a complete mess.
Most recent overpaid veteran is Contreras who was signed as a replacement for Molina but can't catch. The Cardinals had a dozen years to develop one high level MLB level catcher and failed to do so. Then there's the pitching. Perhaps Bloom can fix it but with revenue down the Cardinals now have to rely on their own system. Brand new territory.
Herrera, Winn, Donovan, Sagesse, Gorman, Nootbaar, Scott, Walker, Burleson, McGreevy, etc. What a mess the minors have been.
. why not say you’re pleased with your group. Leave it at that. You have three maybe studs on ur list.
I don't think there are any "studs". Maybe 3-4 solid players

Defined business plan. Gain strength through better development of players within the system and fill any remaining holes through outside acquisition.
The problem with that plan is there are numerous holes to fill, and the ownership has shown thru past actions a strong reluctance to pay for free agents.
You don’t know what holes there are to fill yet, until you see how the younger players perform over this season - Herrera, Donovan, Gorman. Winn, Saggese, Nootbaar, Scott, Walker, Liberatore, etc. With Mathews and Wetherholt on the horizon. But what holes there are to fill may be short term older players like Berkman, Beltran, Lester, etc.
How about the bullpen? That hole has cost us at least 5 or 6 games, 3 of them by Fernandez, who our idiot manager just keeps rolling out there. I would say you can drive a truck through that hole. The only way he gets the ball is for mop up duty or down in Memphis, but Oli, nah he just rolls him out there to lose another game in a key spot.

Bloom has a big job ahead of him. Replacing Mo with Chaim cannot come soon enough. I hope Bloom gets the support from ownership he needs to rebuild this team.
It think Bloom even needs a new coffee boy. He should fire Girsch as well and get someone else to bring his coffee.

Yes. A truly profound statement from Bernie. Also, Matt Painter to Mizzou!
And the Rams were committed to staying in STL!
Deep throat
His source was Demoff who played him like a violin. That’s why Bernie’s attacks on him are so personally virulent.

This org has been sliding off the rails for a decade. How can you trust an owner who was complicit with MO in all the terrible decisions that got us to this point…..to have any ability to right the ship? And the process you outline will take YEARS, IF they hit on most prospects. Revenues will be terrible given attendance so obviously no big name signings that might improve fan interest. BDW/MO have really blown up the Golden Goose.
This says it. Why should a fan pay top dollar to reward willful ownership incompetencr?

What was Herrera's caught stealing % last year relative to the rest of MLB?
They currently have one pitcher in the rotation who was drafted by the Cardinals. A familiar theme over the last few seasons.
Herrera couldn’t catch Mike Leake stealing.

I don't know about the DH era but is used to be a poor defensive catcher would cost you more games than he could make up with his bat.

C'mon, Cranny. They haven't followed a plan in years. The developmental resources you speak of was apparently abandoned to pay for those outside acquisitions. Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul. This ownership group had a very passionate and devoted fan base that they're playing a very dangerous game of chicken with. A large faction of fans aren't as naive as you act.

Actually like Bernie except when he interviews Mo or DeWitt's then he only throws softball questions at them like 90% of all the other local sport writers in town.
Not a huge fan of Kevin Slaten but I do admire his past hard hitting interviews with Dewitts and Mo.

Actually they did have a plan. Make big trades for Goldy and Arenado and let them lead the team deep into the playoffs. Didn’t work. So now it’s go back to the old plan that brought them the last 2 championships - stock from within and fill holes as necessary from the outside.

How many small to middle market teams have a number of multiple time all stars?
