Most recent overpaid veteran is Contreras who was signed as a replacement for Molina but can't catch. The Cardinals had a dozen years to develop one high level MLB level catcher and failed to do so. Then there's the pitching. Perhaps Bloom can fix it but with revenue down the Cardinals now have to rely on their own system. Brand new territory.
How about the bullpen? That hole has cost us at least 5 or 6 games, 3 of them by Fernandez, who our idiot manager just keeps rolling out there. I would say you can drive a truck through that hole. C'mon, Cranny. They haven't followed a plan in years. The developmental resources you speak of was apparently abandoned to pay for those outside acquisitions. Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul. This ownership group had a very passionate and devoted fan base that they're playing a very dangerous game of chicken with. Actually they did have a plan. Make big trades for Goldy and Arenado and let them lead the team deep into the playoffs. Didn’t work.
