Buh bye Siani. He's a great defensive player, but right now, we need infielders who can hit LHP.

I would almost rather have Barrero in Siani's roster spot right now. He can play short, center field, as well as other spots as a right handed bat.
Right handed bat doesnt help if the bat is bad. Barrero has been terrible in his past and we dont need another guy blocking at bats from saggese right now. Also barreros defense has been mediocre by the stats.

I could be persuaded to your point of view. At this point I think I am more curious, than sold on Barrero. To me, it's the kind of year where you answer as many questions as you can. If he gets a chance and can't do it, we won't be asking the same questions in spring training next year.

I think Baker goes down. He's just not a fit on the team. He's our third string 1B, maybe even fourth, since Donovan has time there. And we've already got a lot of guys who I'd rather see in the DH spot than Baker. If Baker has to stay, then I send Siani down.

It's tough bc Baker theoretically has the potential to provide more value than Siani as a RH power bat off the bench (but never at #2 in the order ofc). But right now Siani is providing more value with his elite defense + noodle bat, bc Baker hasn't tapped that power in actual games.

And we also don't know if Baker's theoretical ceiling is even in reach, cause he may just be a Quad-A guy who had his career year in 2023.

Basically I don't think there's a definite wrong decision between sending down Baker and Siani. Sending down Saggese would be wrong though.

yup
I'd play him at 2b versus lefty starters (after Winn gets back to SS)

Saggese has more value to this team as a RH bat and utility IF. Though Baker is a good RH hitter with power, he is limited defensively. Hate to lose him but Saggese is a much better fit.

Agree
Pozo goes when Herrera returns although he has earned better.
Winn back it’s Siani or Baker.
Tough call:
Siani gets the nod for defense, base running, and bunting.
Baker has no place defensively in the field but they are short on RH bats.
I don't know why you repeatedly stayed that Baker has no position. He plays first base, and has done so this year, and he has been serviceable to decent.
Baker is not good at 1b and has only played 3.1 innings in a blowout game.

Also im not sure what people are loving about this 28 year old who has very mediocre mlb numbers. His 2024 memphis season wasnt that special considering his age. His 2023 memphisnseason came out of nowhere and he wasnt able to bring it to majors or repeat it in 2024.

Im not a fan of burly but at least burly isnt 28 years old. Baker is a nobody.
Never understood the draw some have to Baker. His career path is Asia not significant playing time in the Majors.

I don't dislike Baker, but as noted in the posts, he has several limitations. Moving from an ok option to a better option is a good thing. They call it progress.

Does Siani really need to replace VS2 in CF as a defensive replacement?

Do the Cards need a RH threat at the plate who plays 1b?

How do you use a player like Saggese,
How do you put him in a game per day?
Saggese doesn’t have his own position -
At short,
Or second base,
Or any way,

He’ll force his own position in the lineup,
Hitting is his forte, by the way.
So where do you set his place,
And who do you sit instead,
Such a daily conundrum to face.

So how do you use a player like Saggese?
Just put him in and let his talent play.

(Apologies to Richard Rodgers)

The problem with baker is that pages and pozo are arguably better bats than him, and wed just be better off carrying a 3rd catcher and letting them/ herrera dh when not catching.

Baker and Siani will be drawing straws in the clubhouse when Winn comes off the IL.

When Winn & Hererra return

The bye-bye

Baker & Pozo

Saggese is a much better option off the bench vs LHP than Baker, Pozo's been good but we know Oli is a Pages fan.

I guess you could go w/Pages/Pozo at catcher and use Hererra as your main DH while sending Sinai down w/Baker.

But then that eats into N. Gorman's PA's at DH (Donny's going to be locked into 2nd base most games).

And Burleson, he needs to be dealt, perhaps a MRP?

True I didn't think of that, good point.

Well Siani doesn’t replace VS2, he typically replaces Walker, but Walker has been much improved defensively this year to the point that I don’t even think they really need to replace him late in the game.

When healthy team should be

C- Herrera/Pages
1B- Contreras
2B- Donovan
3B- Arenado
SS- Winn
LF- Nootbaar
CF- Scott
RF- Walker
DH- Gorman

Bench
Pages/Herrera
Saggese

And then you determine the last 2 spots between Burleson/Baker/Siani/Pozo/whoever is doing well in Memphis that could help. Koperniak hasn’t really forced his spot yet this year unfortunately although his play last year should have earned him a spot.
