Right?

It shouldn’t take “great” to replace “bad.”
Then again it could just be bad replacing bad. Or really bad replacing bad. We didn’t even get rid of our worst reliever, it was our 2nd worst reliever. We have 4 relievers with a negative bWAR currently

Fernandez -0.7
Roycroft -0.5
King -0.2
Romero -0.1

The top 3 all have at least a 2.12 WHIP, we got rid of the 2.12 WHIP and left the 2.20 (Fernandez) and 3.33 (King)

It’s pretty remarkable to be averaging more than loading the bases every inning through 4 appearances for King.

I think Fernandez comes around. He did good work in extras against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. King...I dunno...I don't really trust him. Never have. Feels like a relic from when you could actually have a true LOOGy.

Romero, I feel, might just be very average.

At least Fernandez has demonstrated success at MLB level though, and his last outing he looked a lot sharper. Definitely on board with a demotion though if he can't get traction by the end of the month.

Have you seen is BB rate at Memphis? 1 per inning! Which leads to his 1.6 WHIP. He plays w/ fire every time out it seems. Should be a fun cardiac show when he pitches.
Struck out 7 and allowed only one run. Only 2 BBs in 7 innings in ST.

Relax, fellas.

I am relaxed. Just not cherry picking 7 innings of spring training stats over his lifetime body of work.

My expectation is a RH Genesis Cabrera on a bad day.

I'm looking forward to him because he opened the season well at Memphis, following a decent ST showing. Oh yeah, I already said that, and it isn't "cherry picking."

What is your definition of “well”? He has a 1.60 WHIP. Even with 7 K’s in 5 IP, his K/BB ratio is 1.40. It would be his lowest K/BB ratio since rookie league.

And kind of comically the last outing he had in AAA before getting the call he walked 3 batters and hit one in one inning. I guess that was when the Cardinals said “yep, I’ve seen enough, he’s our guy!”
