Really? A question about whether Contreras is feeling pressure to produce? Has he not proven that he can handle it? Walker is hitting, and they’re scoring runs. Why mess with the batting order? If you want to swap Contreras and Donovan then sure, but can we just let Jordan Walker be for 5 freaking minutes?
I didn’t move the goalposts. Rather, I was responding to your comment about constructing lineups conducive to winning. To that I said they’re scoring 7 runs/gm. I’d say that shows the lineup has been constructed in a way that’s conducive to winning, thus far. Nice try on the goalpost thing though.
It's 2025. Not 2024. Not 2023. With so many strikeouts this year, it is entirely possible WillyC is experiencing some pressure. So no, WillyC hasn't proven yet he can handle batting second.
Walker hitting this year is not a new phenomenon. He has hit every year he has been on the team. It's not his fault some genius decided to send him down his first year to work on launch angle nonsense. After being sent down because of a slow start last year (again the team screwing with his hitting approach) he came back late summer and was productive to end the season. 2025 he has come out of the gate hitting again. Yet some of y'all must think he is mentally Jello if he bats higher in the lineup.
I don't get it.
Yea the cardinals have screwed him multiple times. But no he did not hit last year he ended with a .201 avg with the cardinals and like a .760 ops in Memphis. Again, the lineup is producing as is. Walker is freaking 22. Let him have success for a minute. Then, move him to the middle of the lineup later. Doesn’t have to be the third game in April for any reason.
Multiple people on this forum are so caught up in the moment. Somebody said Burleson better start hitting or he’s just going to become a pinch hitter. Why are people making such declarations the first week of April? It’s incredibly shortsighted. The Clydesdales galloped around the stadium last week. The Red Sox home opener is today. Give the season a minute before jumping to conclusions.

M. Winn had great success in early 2024 hitting 8th.
Then the genius Oli moved him to lead-off where he posted a "sterling" .290 OB%.
All spring Oli kept him there and his horrible spring spilled over into the season where he was hitless until Oli dropped him to the #9 hole.
J. Walker is having success in the #7 hole, do we really want Oli to repeat what could be the same mistake?
I'm not a fan of WillyC in the #2 hole where his run producing bat throughout his career is being waste and his slow base running clogs up the bases.
The easy fix is to flip-flop WillyC and Donovan but I'd keep Walker in the #7 spot.

I'm not concerned about WC. He's a professional baseball hitter. He will come around. I have, however, been puzzled over time by how infrequently Oli puts Walker in the two-hole. JW has always struck me as a guy who benefits from seeing more strikes, and I think he would if he hit second. This looks to me like stubbornness on Oli's part.

Enjoying the success of the bottom 3rd of order rather than past years of auto outs. WC's bat is not producing but the team is still winning. It would be awesome to have his production but if not and they can continue success then deal with it June 1st.

It’s six games. Once he hits others will cool. Like a portfolio. Some up some down.

IMHO best case scenario is Walker keeps hitting and gets promoted to the three hole mid season.
Nootbaar
Contreras
Walker
Arenado
Herrera
Burleson /Baker / Gorman
Donavan / Gorman
Scott
Winn
That has the potential to be a very well balanced and deep lineup. Fun times!

22 is an adult. Walker is a grown man and he's already had success in the majors. But for some reason y'all figure he can't handle batting higher in the order. He doesn't need to be babied imo.
If you can it, you can hit.
And somebody's right, Burleson. Whomever is in the 2-spot need to produce. That doesn't mean just as a hitter, advancing runners will do.

Yes, eventually but not today. I think we’ll just have to disagree on this one.
