We were a terrible hitting team last year and you’re saying we have lots of Koperniaks? He’s a career .298/.374/.461 hitter in the minor leagues. His worst OPS in a season in the minors is .799. And beyond just hitting he’s a solid defensive player.Red7 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:13 amActually, Koperniak doesn’t bring anything to the team they don’t already have in spades. Last I looked:
-VSII won a MiLB Gold Glove playing CF
-Donovan won a Utility Gold Glove (more so for his play in the OF where he was a +4 DRS vs 2B where he was a -3 DRS that season)
-Noot is a well above average RF (+9 DRS from 2022-2024)
And how many games do you really think that trio of above average defensive OF'ers would cost the Cardinals in the 8th/9th inning vs games saved by the great Sinai?![]()

Is he going to replace Donovan, Burleson or Nootbaar?
Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
I have not seen Koperniak play much.
Mostly some AB’s and I like his swing/approach.
My question:
How does he rate defensively? I’ve read he can play CF but how does he compare out there??
I assume he’s not as good as Siani. How does he relate to Scott & Noot?

"..doesn’t bring anything to the team they don’t already have in spades" on a team crying for hitters?

Sinai, who slashed a pathetic .095 .224 .095 .319 with 15 KO's this spring, bring s NOTHING but 8th/9th inning defense something I already pointed out the Cardinals already have in Donny-VSII-Noot.
As for Fermin, he slashed .292 .352 .479 .831 this spring, guess you missed it.
Donny (if he hasn't started games in LF then he shifts from 2B)-VSII-Noot in the late innings gives the Cardinals all the late inning defense they need PLUS offense.
Siani is a waste of a roster spot.

This is a question for duce, catch him in a GDT but from what I know he's solid but not Siani level.
VSII, on the other hand, won a MiLB Gold Glove in CF.
Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
I'm confident many Cardinals observers agree that Koperniak should be the 4th outfielder for the Cardinals, right now. Both Nootbaar and Koperniak could play CF in a pinch.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:33 amThis is a question for duce, catch him in a GDT but from what I know he's solid but not Siani level.

We all agree Siani is a great defensive CF.
But I went to 50-60 games last season, watched 90% of the road games and I can't remember him making more than one or two "game saving" catches in the 8th/9th inning..............if that!
Koperniak got screwed
Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
ST numbers mean very little. Fermin was hitting well over .300 at Memphis with some power last year, but quickly became the hitless wonder he’d always been when he got to STL. I’m shocked given how great Koperniak and Baker are why they’re not more highly sought after by other organizations. These guys have John Gall written all over them.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:30 amSo a young OF'er who just went 4 - 4 last night vs the big club and put up a spring slash of .355 .394 .645 1.039 w/2 Home RunsRed7 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:13 amActually, Koperniak doesn’t bring anything to the team they don’t already have in spades. Look, I'm not here to honk for Fermin who's nothing more than a utility man. But I'd rather have him than Siani.
And Sinai has PETER BOURJOS written all over him.

Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
IF the team was on a run of doing logical roster management decisions,Shady wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:36 amI'm confident many Cardinals observers agree that Koperniak should be the 4th outfielder for the Cardinals, right now. I'd see this decision as a short-term choice to cover CF with a longer thought
of Siani being easily sent back when a more versatile player that can play
a little SS fully emerges. Siani doesn't challenge Noot or Walker.
Unfortunately, they may see Kop as a challenge instead of a supplemental piece
where all players can be placed in a better position for success.
Sadly, they are not on a run of good roster management as they are showing with 3 CF, 3 1B,
and only 3 middle infielders with only 1 of those 3 with an above average glove.
Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
Yes, yes he does. That being the case, he’s not a redundancy as Koperniak is. I’d have no problem if they traded Donovan, Nootbaar, or Burleson to make room for Koperniak. Siani isn’t blocking him. They are. Fermin wouldn’t play much in STL. Better he be getting regular AB’s in Memphis. He’s the #2 SS, right now. He’s not the backup. Donovan is. If Winn misses an extended time Fermin would be recalled.

they well get a lot of the starts as long as they are healthy.
I would challenge that the Cardinals don't need a third CF. That a third CF is more redundant
than a guy who could provide some cOF type offense and easily be in a rotation out there.
I'd say it a wash since both hit LH but then 1 doesn't hit. That having 2 backup 1B is actually
taking away the backup more athletic multiple position player.

Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
I would disagree. It looks to me based on his AAA record and ST numbers he might bring a better bat to the team than many here. Siani especially. Problem is he bats left. Of course so does Siani so I wonder why they don't give him a shot. Heck he is already on the 40 man.Red7 wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 11:13 amActually, Koperniak doesn’t bring anything to the team they don’t already have in spades. Not like Siani does anything really important for the team if VS succeeds this time.
Re: Did Koperniak tap Mrs Mo or Mrs DeWitt?
Sinai’s numbers are a very small sample size. It’s really not fair to lump in the handful of AB’s he had in 2023 and with the Reds. His numbers greatly improved in the 2nd half last year. Regardless, Siani brings things to the team that Nootbaar, Donovan, Burleson and Koperniak do not. If Koperniak hit right handed, he’d probably be on the team.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 Mar 2025 13:03 pm Siani:
