Re: Mizzou Baseball
On a brighter note Kameron Misner is doing pretty good with the Rays so far. Anyone see his walk-off homer?

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Just 2 years ago we did have SEC talent (even last year , with some leftover from the Bieser tenure). Bieser had us ranked early 2 years ago and swept Tennessee before injuries ravaged the pitching staff. Bieser had an outstanding recruiting class that came in last year. But we were stupid and fired him, brought in Jackson last year instead and it’s been horrible recruiting and one bad decision after another ever since. To where now our pitching staff is a joke and historically bad. There is some talent on the team but it’s either hurt or not used. Most of the pitchers who Jackson brought in and committed to have been just bad.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Misner became the first player in Major League history to hit a walk-off home run on Opening Day for his first career homer, according to Stats Perform. “Baseball's a funny game. A lot can go good, and a lot can go bad,” Misner said afterward, clutching the ball that will soon be a keepsake for his family.

Today's DH isn't any better.Armchair QB wrote: ↑05 Apr 2025 19:21 pm Lost 21-3 to Arky in the opening game of the series to fall to 0-10 in SEC play. We have a pitcher with a 72.00 ERA pitching tonight. How Jackson destroyed this pitching staff needs to be questioned. Look back at the fall and see what happened because we had like 30 pitchers originally. How he settled on this staff is hard to figure out.
Fire him now, start the search for a REAL coach. There would be dozens of mid major coaches with great resumes who’d love the opportunity to take a crack at the SEC.
Arkansas is good but this is demoralizing.

Re: Mizzou Baseball
Over the weekend, they lost all three to Arkansas by a combined score of 51-9, and none of the games went the full nine innings. "Embarrassing" isn't a strong-enough word to describe those performances. Veach needs to do something, and quickly.

Unless Veatch can somehow move the university into the warmer south with its rivals I'm not sure there's much else he can do.

If I recall correctly Jackson’s coaching resume was pretty unimpressive outside of one year in the SWAC, I think. Then again Mizzou’s commitment to baseball is embarrassing by SEC standards. Anyone with high coaching aspirations, probably isn’t longing for that job.

This is a coaching issue more than anything. Bieser was close. But new stadium off a giant hill wouldn’t hurt.11WSChamps wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 09:28 amUnless Veatch can somehow move the university into the warmer south with its rivals I'm not sure there's much else he can do.
Jackson is just a joker. Doesn’t know what he’s doing. That’s the number one issue. Last year with Bieser’s players we managed to win 10 SEC games and were very competitive. Pitching was a strength, but Jackson brought in “his guys” in the off season and most haven’t been good at all. And even some previously good pitchers haven’t developed and have actually regressed. Or haven’t been used at all which is hard to understand.
Fire Jackson now. Find a great mid major coach (there are a bunch), or a top tier assistant in the SEC, and get to work fixing this thing. Jackson will only crater the program into a bigger hole.

I've said I thought letting him go was a mistake but in the grand scheme of things MU faces a lot of inherent disadvantages and it will take more than a good coach to turn this thing around.Armchair QB wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 10:33 amThis is a coaching issue more than anything. A new stadium perhaps and a ton of NIL money to convince better talent to come play in 40-50 degree weather the bulk of their 3-4 college seasons where the ball doesn't fly and batting stats are deflated. Not to mention less exposure on SEC network TV, etc.
Competitive at times yes..been there done that. But sustainability into a top program, no. I said it at the time the jump into SEC wasn't made for baseball. It was never going to happen and it hasn't. The program was going to be a casualty of the move and that's exactly what has happened.

There was plenty of action in the 11-9 Mizzou win & a pretty good crowd mostly stayed till the end. I did make a wrong turn leaving the game & ended up in E STL behind a line of cars waiting at a malfunctioning railroad crossing. That made my wife a LITTLE nervous. I ended up making a U-turn & returning to the stadium to get on the right street. Duh.
Also with 255 shut down, this should have been the year to play at Car Shield in O'Fallon, MO, where it should be held every other year.

I agree. We do have challenges most schools don’t have. But, it’s not impossible if Mizzou makes it a priority. We’ve been a top 25 type softball program for decades (not this year unfortunately). But Mizzou has supported softball big time and we’ve always had top tier coaching. Baseball has not gotten that attention.11WSChamps wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 12:13 pmI've said I thought letting him go was a mistake but in the grand scheme of things MU faces a lot of inherent disadvantages and it will take more than a good coach to turn this thing around.Armchair QB wrote: ↑07 Apr 2025 10:33 amThis is a coaching issue more than anything. Hire the coach. Get the stadium off that (bleep) hill and into a valley. Lock down the state (which Bieser had done a pretty good job of) and bring in enough transfer talent to supplement and we can compete. Kentucky is doing it. They’re the model for what we could be in the next 5 years. Arkansas shouldn’t be that much better either. It gets cold there too.
