I don't follow the entire draft nearly as thoroughly as you do...so this may be a dumb question (my favorite kind)...
But....
4 picks in the top 90 seems pretty darn good! Is this somewhat of a rarity? Could this be a stepping stone to rebuilding our farm? Thanks for the post and keep up the good work and valued information.
4 in 90 is really good, especially since we have no Compensation Picks, Traded Pics (only Competitive Balance). 4/90 might seem like a rarity, but I think we're grinning ear to ear right now, b/c the last two seasons we've gone without 2 normal picks ~ 2nd Round picks (lost b/c of signing Contreras and Gray), and Competitive A or B picks (2 teams lose out on a random drawing each year, we unfortunately lost 2 years in a row, that's rare). Thankfully, we got both of those picks back. And in a reset/rebuild, we NEED those.
Also....the Brewers, O's, Royals, have 5 or 6 in 90...mostly due to Compensation Picks.
Note ~ I think we attach a QO to Helsley after the 2025 season, we'll get a Compensation Pick after the 1st round (likely) for 2026. Maybe Fedde as well? I guess it depends on his season.

Cam Cannarella seems like he has that it factor. Played with a bum shoulder last year and still put up good production. Seems to always make a big play or get a big hit. The clutch gene is real and he has it.
As it's shaping up right now, the Cardinals, at #5, are in line for Bremmer, Hernandez or Cannarella.
Does Burly have a brother or male cousin? That should be the focus, though it's doubtful those types would slip to 5.
He does! Bubba Burleson, a 6'1" 290 pound slugger who at 19 years of age had a fabulous Junior season in high school last year. The 20 year old senior is a DH who some scouts compare to Gwynn or Votto and seems to be as "athletic" as Tommy Edman.
I have a friend who is a scout in the Japanese leagues and he says BB is a doubles machine who could be a "prime" Pujols.
I am in With both feet. If he can eat up and hit lefties like Burly, then pounce. Why retool? The future is now!

A bit off topic, and just ignoring the shadester, but does anyone know the current status of the two injured pitchers we drafted last year. Are they ready for this spring? If so, at which level would we expect them to start?

Feels like Helsley would be a lock to accept the QO. Fedde probably would accept, but it probably depends on the season he has.

Palm Beach if I had a guess. One is from Vandy, Andrew Dutkanych IV, I think the other from Notre Dame, Jack Findlay? I think I butchered their last names, sorry. We have several injured pitchers from the draft before, too: Christian Worley and Charles Harrison...still waiting on an honest start to a season from both. Austin Love last pitched in 2023 for Peoria (2 starts), he's due to come back from injury. Alec Willis managed 3 innings last year for Palm Beach over 2 outings before being shut down again. He missed all of 2023. Both were from the 2021 draft.

Ethan Petry having a fine weekend. The South Carolina slugger is 2-5 for thru 2 games, 3 RBI, HR, Double, 3 Runs, 2 BB's, 1 K.
he was Cape Cod (Summer League/Wooden Bats) MVP this summer. Kicking off his 2025 College season in style.
He's likely a 1B in the pros....but he fits the Kurtz, Caglianone, Condon mold from last year.

There was alot of chatter this offseason about the improvements Houston made with his bat. If these early returns are any signs of what's to come, he could flirt with 1/1. He's a plus defender at short and has plus speed. Scouting reports last year said he could start in the majors on speed and defense alone.

the competition will get significantly better come March 1st, with a mini-expo weekend in Winston-Salem. Princeton and Maryland will play 2 each vs. Wake Forest. The following the weekend, the true test, as ACC play opens up vs. Notre Dame. I'm not downplaying Marist this weekend, nor Marek's improvement with the bat, but I think we should measure the changes in March.
But he's definitely on a lot teams radars... especially after the 3 HR weekend.

Side note, Billybaseball, and anyone else... what's your draft strategy with the 5th pick, then 3 picks from 50-90??? I know "BPA" is the mantra that most like to say....but everyone has to have a wish list, or a threshold they're comfortable with.
Me, personally, I'd like the best College Arm/Bat available at #5, then I'd feel extremely comfortable going the Brewers/Marlins route of High End/On the fence Highschool Picks with the next 3 picks. Use our draft money and go big.
If we had several picks in the 30's, then I'd change my approach a bit, probably draft up the college kids that fell out of the first round. Those will likely be gone by the time have our 2nd pick in the 50's
