I'm going to use a term that was coined in the NFL as far as I am aware. Best Available Player.
that Pertains to most drafts and most years, but not every year. Every teams BAP list is going to be different by a Country MILE this season....Which will make for a Chaotic Draft....and I don't think a lot of people on Cards Talk will be happy with our pick....we can't create magic and produce a HOF Bat this draft ...they don't exist...pitcher (even HS) may be the best way to go....or a Highschool SS who just wows the pants off us.
Unless Kilen gets back for Tennessee and goes crazy in the SEC Tourney, Regionals and CWS, we're out of luck with the College Bats
If the season continues to trend as it has, they might get another shot in 2026.
the best we can pick is #10th in 2026. No lottery chance this time around.
Why is this?

we were one of 6 teams to win the Draft Lottery in Decemember. Since we pay out in Revenue Sharing, we aren't allowed to pick higher than 10th the following draft. The Angels are the other team that can't pick higher than 10th in 2026 b/c they paid out in 2023....it's just a 1 season penalty for those who pay out. Those who receive in Revenue Sharing are allowed 2 straight Lottery wins before a year penalty.

Is there ever a possibility that you could have too many teams in the penalty box to not fill out a top 9 draft picks? I know it would have to be a perfect storm aligning to happen, but just thinking it out if it broke a certain way.

sure thing. I hope there's 5 can't miss prospects. Right now your best college hitters are 2 grad students at University of Georgia. They were so far off the radar coming into the season, I doubt they're one of the 5. Still quite a few weekends worth of games out there

no possibility...as far as I know, we're stuck at 10th at best. I imagine we'll have a bottom 10 record...the way things sit now.
I think we'll beat the Angels in the worse record department. Not sure with the Rockies and Nationals. We're the 4 in the penalty box .

here's the 2026 lottery simulator....we're currently 12th, tied for 11th with the Nationals. They get the nod in a tie b/c they're a Receiver.

This is not true. We did not pay into revenue sharing in 2024 which is why we recieved a comp b pick. So the back-to-back rule doesn't apply and since we lost the lottery and picked 7th in 2024 the 3 in a row rule does not apply. So we have no restrictions this draft year.

We do not have any restrictions in the 2026 draft. We did not pay into revenue sharing in 2024 and will not be in 2025. So the restrictions for teams paying into revenue sharing doesn't apply. The restrictions for teams receiving revenue sharing also doesn't apply because we lost the lottery in 2024 and picked 7th. The 7th pick is not a lottery pick. Revenue sharing in question is based off 2023...the Angels and the Cards were Payors that season. When the Lottery was held in December 2024, the 2024 Revenue Sharing wasn't used or known. We're in penalty b/c 2023 Rev. Sharing and Winning the Lottery.
the 2 in a row thing is for Receivers...which doesn't pertain to us.
