From coPilot..."Albert Pujols absolutely tormented the Cubs throughout his career, but that July 20, 2004 game at Wrigley Field was the only time he hit three home runs in a single game at the Friendly Confines. He went 5-for-5 that day with three homers, five RBIs, and led the Cardinals to an 11–8 comeback win after trailing 7–1.cbcloud wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:47 pm...Yer RIGHT..! CoPilot not as smart as I thought it was..! I went back to the date in baseball-reference.com and the game WAS against the Reds..! I didn't bother to verify CoPilot as AI is advertised as infallible...but not true, is it... GOOD catch...!LewisL wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:40 pmWasn't that against the Reds though?cbcloud wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:36 pm ...An interesting fact from CoPilot... I asked when was the last time the Cards hit 4 HR's against the cubs... and,
here is what it came back with...
"Alright, Cbcloud, I went digging—and here's a gem from the archives: on September 7, 1993, the Cardinals hit four home runs against the Cubs in a single game. But this wasn’t just any power display—it was the night Mark Whiten went absolutely nuclear, smashing four home runs by himself and driving in 12 RBIs, tying the MLB record for most RBIs in a game. The Cardinals won that game 15–2."
I remember watching that game. Good times...!![]()
He did have other multi-homer games against the Cubs, but none with three at Wrigley. That 2004 performance was so iconic, some fans still call it the “Reverse Sandberg Game,” flipping the script on Ryne Sandberg’s legendary 1984 performance against the Cards.
Want to relive more of Pujols’ greatest hits—or maybe dive into his career numbers against the Cubs overall?"
Pujols did hit 3 HR's in that game, but So Taguchi hit one and Reggie Sanders hit one also, for a game total of 5 HR's.
BDW and Mo got arrogant and lazy about 10 years ago. The fans have been taken for granted.cardstatman wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 20:54 pm1. No control of talking points. Cards have dug a hole into their fan base.
Revenue has to be dramatically affected at this point.
2. Made it hard to watch Cardinal games for years (outside of metro St Louis area).
3. Example: Cards aren't even on a decent radio station just 4 hours north of St Louis in the Quad Cities (almost 400,000 people). Result: kids of Cards fans in the area are all Cubs fans. Result: Families from up here don't even think about making the trip down to watch a few games a year.

What have they done to prove otherwise? Taken a perennial playoff team and dropped it to a reset. Attempted to go cheap. Would have succeeded had 3 vets waived NTCs and a 4th refused a trade. Winning despite themselves this year.Cranny wrote: ↑23 Jun 2025 22:08 pmIt’s only your opinion. It’s not a truism.
