Go Cards!
Sonny's quality start just barely enough for a team win. He gave up lots of hits but in the end he was just good enough.
Maton tried to put the fear in us. But, that is what Cards closers do!
Go Cards!

I understand it fully. If ball goes out of play on a throw or etc, runners advance one base. Arenado essentially ran out of play with the ball as he full fell in bleachers
good explanation
Thanks for pointing that out!
Still confusing.
I understand letting runners advance if the BALL goes out of play.
But in this case Arenado had possession of the ball so is the ball out of play?
Will be interesting to hear any follow up post game.
he fell out of play so the ball is out of play

yes that is the rule -- but don't you get the base you were heading to plus one when the ball goes out of play? runners were on 1rst and second..

plz be okay Nado
that was like a very hard punch to the kidney, or worse
This is the 2nd play I’ve NA propel into the seats. On the first there were small children right in his path with a father sitting a seat over watching the entire event. Didn’t move a muscle to save his kid from the flying NA. Today’s play there were adult males sitting there and did nothing again to cushion his fall. The ball was caught each time ahead of his seat adventure so no excuse that they were looking for the ball. And as I said the first time the father let his small child get munched…..

they weren't trying to advance on the play prolly the ruling?

I’ve seen a catcher go into the dugout to make a catch, never saw runners advance….

the same as Arenado just did.. caught it in fair play and fell out of fair play. it's a good question
or is the dugout considered part of foul territory?

Sonny also got a bad break with that blooper down the right field line scoring 2

I believe they specifically say in rulebook its one base for a fielder going into stands AFTER catch.

Ive seen such plays but they pften were either 3rd out or there was no runners on. I cant specificaly remember if i saw it with runners on andnless than 2 outs. Ive also seen catch where players definitely touch stands but still mostly are in field of play.

Ok thanks.
The announcers didn’t really explain it very well and I was into the last batter.
I seem to remember seeing fielders leave the field of play but runners not advance?
Thanks again!

Big win!

If Arenado hangs onto ball and doesn't throw it from out of play, runners don't advance.
You cant throw a ball while out of the field of play, seats, netting, dugout, you have to re-establish two feet in field of play to make a throw.

To me that makes some sense. It wasn't explained that well on the tv broadcast. There may have been some mention of the ball being thrown in but not a very detailed explanation.
