Dodgers have been their own kryptonite. Betts, Freeman & Teoscar Hernandez have basically vanished for over a month.

That's part of the problem now. They're all trying to hit the ball out of the stadium. That leads to a lot of pop ups and foul outs. I would argue that they need to "slap" the ball more not less. Arizona scored 5 runs on "slap hits" mostly.
Slap hits are different than infield ground outs. We will have to agree to disagree on this one.
Ground balls are even subject to fielder errors and batted ball luck. That's part of Pallante's problem, he's subject to batted ball luck too much because he doesn't miss bats. The 82 Cards won the World Series and there was only one team that hit less homeruns, Houston. So many players now don't even care about making contact and directional hitting. They just swing for the homerun every swing. That's why I loved Yadi's approach. 1st strike? Swing for the fences. 2nd strike? Swing for the fences. 3rd strike? Try to slap the ball through the right side for a hit. A great approach. It's infuriating to watch a player not change his approach and hit into the teeth of the defense. They want to play the 3rd baseman at the short stop position? Fine, slap the ball down the line for a double. But no, they just swing away in hope of the almighty home run. That's a major factor in why most players can't hit .300 any more.
Pallante’s problem is more about command. Contact pitchers who can put the ball where the batter can’t get a good swing, are very successful at this level.
They're still subject to errors and batted ball luck. No matter how you present it that will never change. Put the ball in play and good things can and do happen for the offense. Even runs can score on double play balls, but not stikeouts usually.
You must have never saw Bob Forsch or Bob Tewksbury pitch. They weren’t close to being a Bob Gibson, but had pretty successful careers. Pitching to location is crucial. All three Bob’s could do it, it’s just Gibson did it with way more velocity.

LOL....Forsch had two no-hitters. Tewksbury was a true painter and junk ball pitcher. So was many other successful pitchers, especially in the era where striking out was more taboo. The point being, when you put the ball in play good things can and does happen for the offense. When you strike batters out that opportunity doesn't happen. Effectively lowering the chances of a team to score by striking out 10 batters a game is always going to be more effective unless you walk the world. It's just the numbers. 16 outs to score with as opposed to 26. Makes sense doesn't it.
