ramfandan wrote: 02 Feb 2026 17:36 pm Cardinals get Rays 24th ranked pick ... Colton Ledbetter in the deal too ..

Ledbetter has no one oustanding tool but very good all around OF player. Nice addition to the trade .
Cijntje had a 2.67 ERA over his first 33 innings at AA last season.

Ledbetter also stole 37 bases at AA last season.

If they both start at AAA this season and keep improving or at least carry those numbers up the ladder ... meh, I guess we'll see.

Would have preferred a single top-30 prospect for Donny but, with the accumulation of talent Bloom's brought in, hopefully a few of them hit. Of course, with this org, who the h*ll knows...
ramfandan wrote: 02 Feb 2026 17:49 pm So the final trade seems to be Cijntje, Peete, Ledbetter (from Rays) and Seattles 70th pick (right after Round 2 ) .
There's also a 1st-rounder from Seattle, isn't there?
Don't believe regular picks can be traded . That pick acquired 70th is called Competive Balance selection and those CAN be traded away .
Possibly the confusion about 1st rounder is that both Cijntje and Peete were 1st round picks of Seattle in different years .
I like that Bloom got that 70th pick . That could be a nice ballplayer for the Cardinals.

I disagree strongly with your last sentence.
Yep, Bloom has done more positive for the franchise in a few months than Mo had done in the last 10 years.
What great positive has he done other than clearing BDW payroll obligations for question marks.
What player out of this offseason trade return is anyone confident being a solid MLB starter?
Prefer adding an Erik Fedde and calling it a winter?
I prefer getting some stud players…….is this asking too much…..middling rehab projects fits in well to this organizations overall losing mentality
What studs were available for BD?
GF was asked the same question when he was whining about the return in the Gray trade, whining about the return in the Contrerras trade and whining about the return in the Arenado trade. He had no answers then, he'll have no answers now.

The Cardinals are also getting Seattle's Round B Competivie Balance pick in the 2026 draft . It's the FIRST pick immediately after the 2nd round .
A good move by Bloom .

The Seattle Mariners were awarded the second pick in Competitive Balance Round B for the 2026 MLB Draft. This pick, which is the 70th selection overall, will take place immediately following the second round of the draft. The 2026 Draft is scheduled to start on Saturday, July 11, 2026

So the final trade seems to be Cijntje, Peete, Ledbetter (from Rays) and Seattles 70th pick (right after Round 2 ) .

Many posters were griping without knowing the full trade. Typical knee jerk reactions. Can't wait for all the full details of the trade.
It is Tampa Bay's comepetitive balance pick in round B which is the #72 pick. If I'm not mistaken apoligies if I'm wrong.

2 OF prospects that signed for under slot and haven't hit in the minors, plus an under 6 ft tall RH pitcher, which almost always means future reliever.
Sonny Gray was 5-11
Marcus Stroman (5'7"): A 2-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner, and one of the most successful short pitchers in recent history.
Tim Lincecum (5'11"): Two-time Cy Young winner, known for his incredible power and velocity.
Billy Wagner (5'10"): One of the most dominant left-handed relief pitchers in MLB history.
Pedro Martinez (5'11"): Widely considered one of the best pitchers to ever play, regardless of height.
Sonny Gray (5'11"): A consistent, high-performing starting pitcher.
Johnny Cueto (5'10"): A durable starter with a very high pitch count in his prime.
Marcus Stroman (5'7") is significantly shorter than the league average, proving that shorter players can succeed in the major leagues.
Historical and Other Notable Short Pitchers
Whitey Ford (5'10")
Ron Guidry (5'11")
Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown (5'10")
Roy Oswalt (5'11")
Fernando Rodney (5'11")
Craig Kimbrel (5'11")
David Robertson (5'11")
Gray was listed at 5’11!
Saw a lot of video on Sonny Gray from his HS days at Smyrna.. he was smallish QB under 6 footer but boy did he have an arm ! Could throw the deep ball with the best of taller QB's .. no wonder he made it to pros as baseball pitcher. BTW He led his team as QB to state championship in HS football.

To answer your question in last sentence ... guys like Francisco Lindor, Manny Machado (a few years ago ), guys like that who were considered top tier players.. Donovan is not in that same class (not a knock on him but not in their tier at all )

It was an appropriate return. Sure I would have liked more. The trade value was accurate, as usual. Still way better than getting less at td or nothing in 2 years. This player wasn't taking us to the playoffs.
