Nice comeback!
Tigers lucked out and they know it. They were about to fold and Pages hit a rocket right at the CF.
Take the series tomorrow.

Comebacks only count if you win
Nothing gained when you lose
Tie game in 9th at home, you bring in your closer

In postgame, Oli talked about tough moments in the game. Like when Pages came up with bases loaded .
As I thought and posted when some asked about Burly pinch hitting there , Oli said he wanted to keep Pages behind the plate for the last few innings (though Oli did not mention who would pinch hit there but we all know it would have been Burly ) . So not a bad decision but always a tough one to take out your starting catcher in such a tight game.

Well, to be fair, the Cardinals got lucky to score 2 of their 4 runs thanks to a bloop by Herrera that fell a step in front of their cowardly RF and an IF nubber by Winn who later scored.
Baseball always involves some luck, and not just for opponents.

Difference making play tonight was SS Sweeny keeping Walker's base hit from going into the OF where Herrera scores. His backhanded stop saved the Tigers that run and they won the game by that one run . Nado mentioned that too in postgame interview. That play was crucial and Detroit made it.

No you don't. I trust Leahy right now as much as Helsley. I was glad to see him stick with Leahy who has been lights out. It didnt work. Doesnt mean it was the wrong move. You overall philosophy is also short sighted and negative. Its a long season. Knowing they can comeback against the best pitcher and team right now builds confidence for a long season.

Very winnable game goes into the loss column. Different loss than it started out like.
Didn't give up at least.
love that about this team

Yep, a good team made a good play when they needed to. It was still a great game, let’s get them tomorrow. Love the baseball this team is playing.

At the end of the day is two good teams fighting. However it is true this was a winnable game. How different would it feel to be sitting here up 2 wins forcing the Tigers to try and salvage the final game. It would have had this team feeling Unstoppable. This game might have had us the talk of baseball for at least a day if we pulled it out. You had a big Arenado HR in this one too. The offense continued to create opportunities especially Winn and Scott doing great jobs tonight.
Oh well, win the series tomorrow against their bullpen.
One thing we can say that Greene is a player.

That’s for sure, he was my dark horse AL MVP pick.

They are a 30+ win team I didnt expect a sweep. Most sane people didn’t. Let’s do what they do win series.

Tigers had their Ace and a 4 run lead- they can’t feel good.
Cards need the win tomorrow to make a point

Was there a problem with Helsley?
No problem that I know of..
You could pitch Helsley in 9th to try to keep it at 4
But if it goes to 10th tied 4-4
Then you have Leahy with a runner on 2 nd to start the 10th
Leahy wouldnt be able to come in the 10th, he already pitched the end of the 8th inning.
