The Next NHL Expansion Draft. 2027? A Mock Draft

Aren't they planning on adding 2 teams at once?
I thought I read that somewhere.

I heard they won’t do two at a time because of the complaints of GM’s when Columbus and Minnesota were added at the same time. Should be one team added for 2028 and one for 2029 most likely but both before 2030.

Care to venture a guess as to who of our young talent would become protectable and who could potentially be exposed under this timeline?

I'd hate to see the Blues efforts to assemble a large core of prime year players chipped away after all the effort to align them together.

I also fear that. The Blues will have a good handful of guys at the wrong time and they will get dismantled via expansion.
That would be a very Blues type thing to happen.

Yep. It is hurting one of the biggest advantages the Blues have over most teams, which is team friendly contracts for very good players which in theory will allow them to add depth of these quality of players to the roster. If we start contending as soon as this year and start adding say a Marchenko/Nikishin/etc...type of player, we will be losing players of significance come the expansion drafts. Now, we could play some gymnastics and do some dealing before those drafts, but again we will then be hurt by leverage as teams will know we have to sell someone. Not great timing for us. However, it is better than just being in a bad cap situation, but it does hurt an advantage that we currently hold. On a plus side, we have a pretty good farm system with quality players coming up with guys like Lawrence, Carbs, Jiricek, Dags, Fischer, Ralph, Buchelnikov, and others that can also negate some of the blow probably.

Expansion is a couple of years away...we're not sure what moves will be made in the next two months or near the next trade deadline or next off-season, so it's really hard to predict which players may or may not be protected at this time.

Now there are more NHL teams than MLB, and then there will be more NHL teams than NFL.

But my question: A few years after the expansion, with the much less percentage revenue from TV as those other major league sports, which teams may fold -- see St. Louis Eagles in 1935, the Cleveland Barons/former California Seals in 1978 -- or which may nearly fold (Blues 1983), or relocate?

Economics are hard to predict too.

When a sport that doesn't have many little leagues, places to play, or people interested in either playing or watching But has more teams then every other league sport that's more popular then them. You're really not watching the big leagues anymore. You're watching three to five big Leaguers on a team and a bunch of guys that wouldn't be playing in the big leagues. If the league cared about the sport.
Luckily for Canadian farm boys American don't really kno w the sport and love them some lunch box boys.
This league don't need more teams, nor more games.
It needs about ten less teams and about two less months in a season.
