I like the no free lunch concept. But unfortunately Buch has been eating free lunch since signing his "we paid him, now we gotta play him" deal.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:53 pmAgreed. He needs to up his consistency. But the Blues now have Dvo, Neighbours, Suter, Berggren and Stenberg all as 3rd lineish guys (I’m assuming the top-6 will mainly consist of RT, Holloway, Snuggs, McTavish, McMichael and Buch).UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:07 pm Good depth move. Looks like there will be no free lunch this season. You want to stay in the lineup consistently? Then go hard in both games and practice.
The Blues have options now. And depth in the event of injuries, which pretty much always happen. The next man up now looks pretty good now IMO.
It also gives the Blues the option of putting together a 4th line with a little different look. Let’s say the 3rd line shakes out as Neighbours-Dvo-Berggren. A 4th line of Stenberg-Suter and then one of Finley/Torpo/Walker could be a sneaky good 4th line too.

I like how its shaping up but whos the odd men out
Holloway Thomas Snuggs, (probably wont mess too much with this
Neighbours McTavish Buch
McMichael Dvorsky Berggren/Stenberg?
Walker Suter Torop/Finley
At least today this is what i would assume. Berggren was a platoon/press box guy give the Blues a bit of depth in case Stenberg is struggling or injuries. Can play the RW side although hes left shot.
Thoughts?

Good old Steen, knowing he would be called Leery if he goofed off his first day on the job.
Now get us a RW who shoots from the right side.
Perron may still be available! Get 'er done.

I would disagree. Buch’s play has clearly declined but not for lack of effort.FunSeeker wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 13:21 pmI like the no free lunch concept. IMO, I don’t think re-signing him a couple years ago was the right call but that decision’s in the past now.
What I see is a guy taking on the usual effects of aging. But he’s also been thrown all over the lineup and paired with players that don’t seem to fit his game well. Get him a consistent C and then I’d like to see if he can rebound a bit.
But even if he never returns to form, he’s still pretty clearly the 2nd best RW option we have as the roster stands today.

Much happier with this than having Drouin sticking around. They need another right shot of course but not for more than a year or two. Absolutely nothing in UFA looks worth adding though.

I was hoping Berggren would be gone just so I won’t have to read post after post for the next year about how he should be the 2nd line RW, even though he’ll soon be 26 years old and has never had a 30 point season.

Funny you say this. I was just in the car listening to 101 and Jamie Rivers said Steen would love a hundred David Perron's. Why? He played every practice like it was the Cup Final and would pisz off teammates with how hard he worked, drawing slashes and generating skirmishes.MrPostman01 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 13:23 pm Good old Steen, knowing he would be called Leery if he goofed off his first day on the job.

Hmmm... Why not a one year deal as a hired gun to set Steener's tone from within on Day One and retire as a Blue?

Hopefully this also removes further discussion and speculation of bringing Dube into the Blues NHL mix.

That may be true. WIth or with him, I have no idea where Berggren slots in, or why we would even want him to slot in.Tabasco Flowers wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 13:32 pmCarbo will be a Riverman this year. If he is getting significant minutes, that means the Blues are in horrid shape.

The term grinder doesn’t refer to any player that doesn’t score 20+ goals. It pretty explicitly means players that are known for physical play along the boards, grinding in the corners, and forechecking. That doesn’t accurately describe Berggren’s game “honey.”WeWentBlues0819 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 15:25 pmYou think he is a scorer?????The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:45 pmYou think Berggren is a grinder?WeWentBlues0819 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:40 pmYeah his whopping 8 goals really make the differnce.DawgDad wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:37 pmLOL!WeWentBlues0819 wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:36 pm Why?

You all do remember we guy off of waivers last year? Now we’re slotting him in as the 3RW. This signing alone tells me they’re not a playoff team.

Yeah our 4th line has been a problem for a while now. This iteration has promise. The middle six still looks too squishy for my tastes against the top teams but it's the best lineup we have been able to reasonably project since 2021-22.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑30 Jun 2026 12:53 pmAgreed.
