Now he was hurt or banged up lol, like he was part of the team and knew. No one outside the team ever knows anyones injury but resident clown knows he was hurt or banged up

This was the big one that happened earlier in the season - some goon (Farabe?) from Calgary gave him a cross check to his surgically repaired hip and it turned into a lingering injury - before that he was at a point per game pace.

In this day and age, $6M for a 55-60 point center is NOT outrageous.

The issue is the term. There’s pretty much no way he remains a 55-60 pt center for long. This contract is for his age 34-40 years. Forwards tend to peak around age 23-27. Coyle seems to be peaking a little later but there’s absolutely no reason to reasonably expect him to be able to ward off the inevitable decline due to age.

Yes, the Cap is going up and thus yes, $6M/year isn’t what it used to be but this still looks like a pretty bad deal IMO.

As usual, it’s advisable to typically stay far far away from the top of the UFA class as almost all of them end up becoming very negative value contracts.

Zamado, you are 2,112-percent consistent and I love your energy about Perron. Truly, he seemingly "grew up" with the Blues, beginning with Andy Murray white skates and Keith Tkachuk.

In 2018, en route to float trip on Huzzah (I think?), stopped at C-Store in Hillsboro for ice or something. Brother texted that Blues had signed DP57. WOW!
Less than a year later, The Cup! Perron's reaction on third or fourth goal was nearly spiritual.

This is a bargain compared to the $8.0 million AAV for 48 point Buchnevich until age 36. Give me Coyle over Buch everyday and twice on Sunday.

Pierre, you are always legit. Some of these other responses are not, or at least unreasonable.

As to Coyle contract, it reflects how teams in specific circumstances navigate salary cap long term. And I'm glad Blues are in a different navigation. Armstrong has foibles, like any human, but he has reassessed and restocked post-lockdown manpower impressively.

I appreciate what he’s done, but the guy will be 38 at the start of the season, so you’re not signing him for more than a year, maybe 2 if you’re feeling brave, but we don’t need a guy that age sucking up a roster spot
