I get it that Seagal is a joke, but his first five movies are classics. I think Under Siege is especially a great movie. Six, if you count On Deadly Ground, but only because some coked up maniac decided to let him direct it. Okay, it’s terrible, but entertainingly terrible.3dender wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 08:05 amPretty much... people who unironically think Norris was great at anything usually have that opinion enmeshed with other, um, "political" stances that Norris represented.
Like he was pretty objectively not even a Top 5 martial arts star of the 70s/80s. The only thing he had that the others didn't was being North American, and on that front even Seagal's films were more popular.
And yeah, I get it, even those good movies are schlocky, but most action movies are. What I’m curious about is how this guy came out of nowhere and convinced Hollywood that he should star in all these movies where he’s the coolest, toughest, has the biggest dick, and even his toughest enemies are no match for him. Even the Stallones, and Schwarzeneggers got their (donkey) kicked occasionally. No one ever lands a punch against Seagal, and even if they do, he’s unfazed, and his enemy pays for it immediately. It’s amazing that he was able to pull that off.
Complete monster of a person, though. Probably worse than Chuck Norris even. Much better movies, though.
