The mental gymnastics on this forum to avoid admitting that Oli is Blooms choice is hilarious.

While I completely agree with you on this, I find it very odd that BDW would invest in an executive, who was a known commodity and came with a fairly high price tag, then handcuff him to such a low rent manager. What sense does that make?Melville wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 09:00 amBloom did not make the decision.ecleme22 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 08:58 am 1. Bloom knows A LOT more about Oli than we do. (And that includes what players think of OM). He's been here 2 years.
2. Oli's success is directly linked to Bloom's success/job security.
In an offseason full of bold moves, and even giving money to other teams to get better prospects in trades, it would be silly for Bloom to skimp on MLB managers if he felt Oli was detrimental to the team and their growth. It's literally a drop in the bucket, money-wise, compared to bolder offseason moves.
For this reason, I have to trust that Bloom sees/knows something most CTers don't. And trust this is the right decision.
I see it as a player not having a contract for the next season and that being a distraction. Same as a manager.Cusecards wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 09:04 amAgreeecleme22 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 08:58 am 1. Except....why extend him now?
I would have waited.

#2 is not true at all. Neither man's job security is tied to success.ecleme22 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 08:58 am 1. Bloom knows A LOT more about Oli than we do. (And that includes what players think of OM). He's been here 2 years.

Yes, he is. Unless Marmol has pictures of BDW with Boy Scouts, there is simply no other explanation. Maybe the owners didn't want to fire Marmol, but extending him beyond the coming strike year, with an option for 2029?Melville wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 12:54 pmIt was not his choice.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 12:42 pm I like bloom i like what bloom has done so far but keeping oli bad choice

He knew that before he took over for Super Slo Mo.
Zero chance he did not know about DeWitt's commitment to The Marmot.
It was the first thing he asked about - because that would be the first thing ANY incoming POBO would ask about from any owner with any team.

No POBO / GM leader in MLB, NFL, NBA ever takes a job without knowing if he has full decision making over the coaching staff.riff raff wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 13:24 pmMelville wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 13:19 pmBloom was ordered to accept the Marmot extension.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 13:08 pmYes, he is. The uncertainty of 2027 and what an ew CBA will look like has BDWJr in 'defensive" owner mode.
He's slashed his payroll to the bone.
He wasn't going to pay Oli this season to sit at home nor was he going to pay a new, experienced Manager multiple times what he's paying Oli for the 2027 season which could be compromised (management gets paid during a lockout), now likely the 2028 season as well.
Until he's prepared to raise the payroll, Oli is Dewitt's guy....a person grateful for the job who won't rock the boat (re: complain about the lack of payroll to add players).
This move is all BDWJr, fits his "re-build" plan to a tee.
