Sagesse fans might not want to think about it but there’s a high pro at that he starts in the minors.
The signing of Ramon Urias for a guaranteed $2 million doesn’t help his cause.
It would probably serve everyone better if he starts at AAA and plays everyday until there’s an injury.
Who is this Velaquez? Will he make our roster?

Of the current roster, what outfield would you prefer?Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 16:17 pmI would hate that Outfield.Shady wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 14:37 pmWith the addition of Urias, does that signal Saggese may get a good look in LF? How's an outfield of Saggese LF, Church CF and Walker RF appeal to you?Melville wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 14:25 pmI suspect you are correct.
Possible he makes it, but highly unlikely.
Regardless, the closer he looks to being ready - even if that means an August or September audition - the less fit for Velaquez in the team's plan.

As for an outfield of Saggese, Church, and Walker - it holds neither appear nor alarm on my part.
I care about production, not projection.
The very best outfield option is fairly obvious: fire The Marmot and allow a competent manager to address it.

Spring training games DO matterRamFan08NY wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 16:17 pm I liked the signing of Nelson V. , like Ramos, he is a zero risk kind of signing . For him to play well enough to make the ODR would be a huge bonus.

If Gorman repeats last year, I think I’d want Urias as the starting 3B over both Gorman, Fermin, and Sagesse.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 16:26 pm Sagesse fans might not want to think about it but there’s a high pro at that he starts in the minors.

I could see Church starting in one of those OF positions. Once Nootbar proves he's healthy, I could see the Cardinals moving him during the season.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 21:56 pmWalker, VS3 and Nootbar/VelaquezShady wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 16:38 pmOf the current roster, what outfield would you prefer?Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 16:17 pmI would hate that Outfield.Shady wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 14:37 pmWith the addition of Urias, does that signal Saggese may get a good look in LF? I see Church starting in the Minors to get AB until needed. That’s just my opinion.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2026 22:38 pmI could see Church starting in one of those OF positions.
